Oh well – I guess I should do the intro stuff…
Fruit of Trenchard’s loins, I was one of the chosen übermensch. 25 years in before trying to grow up.
History:
74 – Swinditz
74-77 – Halton. Three joyful years going up and down that bloody hill!
77-81 – Colt. Definitely the best-kept secret in the RAF. 41 Sqn Jags.
81-83 – Honington. What a cr@pper. TWCU
83-86 – Cottesmore.
86-90 – Laarbruch. 20 Sqn at first – still all bitter and twisted. Then II(AC) for the changeover to Tonkas, best two years of my RAF time.
90-92 – Honington. Applied reverse logic when presented with repat dreamsheet at Laarparts, didn’t want to go back to somewhere I’d had a good time, as I figured it wouldn’t be the same second time round – so applied to go to Honington as first choice… what a wnaker!! Even cr@ppier second time round!
To escape the evil cnut of a SEngO, I dug 3 tunnels (Tom, Dick & Harry). “Tom” was discovered by the goons (SEngO/WO), but “Harry” got me through the wire to the SNCOs’ graveyard…
92-94 – Swanton Mortuary. My second tunnel carried on forgotten, but finally allowed me to escape from the land of the undead – back to the land of LOA, Wobbly and Bratties…
94-96 – Bruggen. Started in ASF, but post was disestablished, so hid in the Nightfighter Hut for the next 2 years… aaahhhhh 14 Sqn Crusaders – some good times there, especially trying to keep a yorkshireman out of jail in Bahrain! Why?
96-99 – Back to UK once more – having learned from previous mistake, didn’t try Honington a third time – so went to…
Marham. Decidedly average.
99-01 – Tossford. Watching trainees drop JPs off jacks – gave up – decided to travel round the world on my gratuity… got as far as Hacking and Bashing, felt dizzy, so stopped off to become a civvy.
05 – Left Tossford to fight against the powers of the ‘dark side’.
