hello lads and lady's
ive got abit of a dilema, my first armed forces experience was the RMR royal marine resvers ) this was for several months last year i was in holding troop while my application was being processed well nothing came of the rmr as i got injured a week before selection and as there is only one sleection a year i had a long wait..
anyway onwards and upwards
transfered my application to the core all done went on first prmc (potential royal marine course) in march i was in really good shape - got sent home start of day 2 picked up D&V :(
threee months later june 8th was the next prmc - not in so good shape got a new job working 10 hour days and that with my other job ment i was working 7 days a week..
took its toll on me and my training too a back step my own fault should of been more focused and motivated.. passed the gym test failed the three miler, sent home before the end of the course..
afco ring me and reccomends i try the raf i was slightly apprehensive as i have always wanted to be a bootneck,.. i like the professionalism i get from the raf but i DO want to be in an infantry regiment how would i go about doing this in the raf.,.
thanks

Hi mate, first off welcome to the Goat. You might be better asking your questions about RAF trades in the recruiting forums, they can be found here: click

Oh, and you might want to improve your spelling and grammar, poor standards of either are generally frowned upon on this forum! :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Once again, welcome.

The RAF Regiment are the Air Forces 'soldiers'. To be honest with you, if you want to be an infantryman, then I would look to join the Army. If you want to do some soldiering with some specialist type duties (namely airfield defence) then consider the RAF Regiment.

IMHO, you are better off looking at the Army if you want to become a lean green machine - the RAF Regiment are very good at what they do but it's not for everyone.

right so your saying i may be better off in one of the other infantry regiments in which case the army isnt for me it would then be waiting 9 months for another prmc as the R< is what i wanted... i thought the raf regiment were exactly the same as other infantry units and are out in afghan being ground soldiers and rifleme anyone else have any views on this ?
thanks mate

You are aware if you want to join the RAF Regt you will also have to pass a pre-selection course. You will need to motivate yourself whatever you choose. In my view if you want to be a Marine get yourself fit and try again if that's what you really want. Just don't look at the RAF Regt as an easier option selectionwise as for every airman who makes it through the training at Honington there are dozens who fail due to lack of preparation.

cheers mate, the next selection course i go on i will pass regardless mate, i will dig out blind i know what to expect, motivation ? hmmmm i think i am very motivated in what ever i do or want to do, i did let myself slip slightly with work and training but no point moaning about it just crack on as they say what doesnt kill you will make you stronger, i will go back stronger and next selection i go on whether it be for raf RM royal welsh or what ever i WILL be fit enough. the pjft for the raf isnt as hard as the pjft for the marines which indicates the whole course isnt as intesnse as the marine course which indicates again the selection course isnt as hard as the potential marine course...
am i correct?
anyone got a raf dvd i didnt get one in my info pack
thanks

The PJFT that ground trades do is vastly different to the Potential Gunner's Acquaintance Course (PGAC) that potential Gunners will carry out. You may be surprised just actually how difficult PGAC is. It won't be too different in the standards required to the PMRC. As has already been pointed out, there is a high attrition rate on PGAC and by thinking you will breeze it is leaving you open to disappointment.

With regards to a DVD, there is one on the RAF Regt that your local AFCO will give you. Failing that, there is a RAF channel on Youtube that has lots of videos on training, etc that you may be interested in.
