Hello All,

I am in the VR(T) section (mainly assisting in Fist Aid) of the RAF, based at RAF Cranwell, but for my day job I am a Physics Teacher. Forgive me but I have recently been on extended leave due to maternity and becoming a single parent but am slowly getting back up to speed with WHTs, and the like! I have had some very nice NCOs help me with new uniform, berets et cetera, but unfortunately the boots are still a work in process!

I am away for a few days now and so please forgive the lack of comms but any advice that people can give me on uniform or in general will be gratefully received!

Kat xXx

Hmmm. For some reason this thread has caught my attention. :PDT_Xtremez_16: :PDT_Xtremez_31:

Welcome to the goat, Kat. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Education and kids ... it's like computers, you have to punch the data in. Welcome to the goat from a Maths Teacher (retd).

Brilliant!

Even more brilliant!!

Send me a picture of you in uniform, preferably with hat and I will see what I can do. :)

Slightly more realistically, as long as you look smart and not like a 20 stone bag of crap tied up in the middle you will exceed the standard usually seen of VR(T) officers. Especially female ones. Might just be my experience but every time we have an ATC visit round here I wince as I see some horror waddling along wearing what appears at a distance to be an RAF uniform but up close actually looks like a blue sack which has been screwed up in a ball at the bottom of the wardrobe for six months before being loosely draped around her shoulders and cinched in at the middle with bailing twine.

The fact you have asked about Uniform and standards can only bode well. :)

Not quite the impression I was hoping to make!

Not quite the impression I was hoping to make!

How mortifying! You have no idea I long I actually dithered over posting an introduction! Actually the motto I have in the classroom is 'By law, I'm not allowed to hit you but the person next to you can.' I am nice about it though as we start of with a really shy kid and work up to being slapped by a rugby guy. Strangely enough I never have any problems in my classroom and even stranger all of the parents and kids think that it is a great idea! I feel that I should insert here that this is in jest and not meant in anger!

You're quite right about uniform and deportment. I come from a military background in anycase and my best friends are all ex regulars and so they have always drilled it into (pardon the pun) me to make sure that I am fit enough to lead from the front on a cadet exercise (slowly getting there now that my little boy is older), competent on the rifle (again got to retake my WHT in a few weeks time) and that the uniform looks just like any other regular. I would like to take credit for all of this but as I have said before, I have some amazingly supportive NCOs and COs who are covering (and helping me out) for me whilst I sort all of the above out! Having said that, one long standing comment that my COs always make is that the reason why they don't want me to have a rifle with my First Aid pack on a training exercise is that I am already carrying the weight limit in hair pins due to the fact that I have lots of curly hair and the fact that I am blond means that I have my own beacon to say where I am! Hmmm! My drill is absolutely shocking though and I am still learning to recognise the ranks. I have a new found respect for the guys who make drill at Cranwell look so easy!

Anyway, thanks for the comments and the warm welcome and sorry about the faux pas earlier!

Welcome to the goat.

It is de rigeur to make comments when female officers mention uniforms...and it's just as well you said rifle handling rather than weapon handling.

I am gullible but I am slowly learning ...

I am gullible but I am slowly learning ...

Being asked to 'bend over and check my bootlaces' before going on a night exercise on an airfield to 'ensure that they were safe for me' taught me that! and yes, I did fall for it and yes there is photographic evidence to prove it!

Welcome to the goat, and you cant tell us there was photographic evidence and not prove it!!!(unless you did and stupid Dii dont show it...)

I haven't got it but it was in the Sergeants's Mess at Cosford for a while apparently

Not the best impression I felt that I could've made for my debut as an Officer but there you go! On the plus side I got on and made friends with the NCOs very quickly!

I'm trying to make the right impression here ...

I'm trying to make the right impression here ...

Do you honestly think that I am stupid enough to ring up RAF Cosford and say 'Hey do you have a photograph of my Bum looking really unflattering in DPMs?' and then post it on here? Actually, don't answer that question, my sensitive nature might cause me to cry ...!

No, but I may now just pop around to the photographic section here at Cosford this afternoon.....:PDT_Xtremez_14:

One word ... maybe

One word ... maybe

Bugger!

(forgive the language) I am actually blushing now!

As others have mentioned, if you have photographic evidence it must be posted. That is the law.

Claiming that it is lost is no excuse, the photo could be taken again.

That never bodes well for a woman ...

That never bodes well for a woman ...

Sorry guys but it is a universal truth that in most cases a man in DPMs and webbing looks good, a regular who is a woman in DPMs and webbing can pass it off but a Physics Teacher and CCF Officer to boot? This is never going to end well for me gentlemen. And on that note I am going to beat a strategic retreat and go and hide in my classroom for a while! ...
