Just surfed in to your site and thought I'd hang around for a bit. Having a laugh reading some of the forum threads (didnt enjoy the mover bashing one tho!!!) A well done to those responsible for the site. I look forward to many pleasant hours surfing the forums and joining in the chat. AndyZ

Hiya, I'm Johnny Chiseler!

Give us some more info on yourself to start the banter. Come on, we'll be gentle.

Welcome to e-goat, see you in the forums.

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks for the welcome, am now living in west wales. I left the mob in 1990 and currently self employed as an IT consultant and a tutor of social psychology but taking time out due to ill health (dodgy ticker and movers' back).

Always been curious (not bi-curious) about what consultants actually do. Go on.....justify your job.

I don't have to justify mine as everyone knows it's impossible. J/T, see? Just keeping a chair warm for an SAC!

In my case my consultancy arranges for the Client the setting up of an IT suite within a company sorting out costings, training/recruitment of staff and instillation of PCs and hardware then ensuring the maintainance of the suite its hardware and software. Have handled clients ranging from a single PC up to a local Oil Refinery who have around 1500 PCs on site. Is that justification enough?? Not bad for an ex baggage stacker eh?

Could have been doing with someone like you to implement JPA!

As a fairy, I'm sure you'll appreciate that technology is beyond me, the computers I deal with being around 30 years old. With that in mind I couldn't possibly comment on your job but with regards to the shysters who ripped the government off regarding JPA, I'm sure you're on the respectable side of that particular market, being ex-forces an' all.

There are too many shysters operating in the I.T. consultancy game as obviously its the fastest growing industry in the world. I.T. tends to be outdated the very day you install it so it dont help to install an old system in the first place. Have had no personal dealings with JPA but alas was not ask to tender for contract. Those who won the contract are presumably now ensconced on their caribbean isle laughing at the British Government and counting their ill gotten gains. AndyZ

Aye, that sounds about right. Some things never change, eh?

Sadly nothing does change, I remember when I was at Brize in the 80s when we had a batch of "new" computers that were ex British Airways that came as part of the package the TriStars came in. We were directly linked to BA for a time, mind this was great when looking up BA flight details and manifests and figuring out how to add your self to business class on the next Speedbird to New York LOL "Happy Days"
