Hello everybody from ex 33rd (u/t Air Wireless Mech) then 35th (u/t armament Mech). Over 50 years now since I joined up. Had a great time in the 'mob' including two (Yes TWO) tours at Akrotiri plus one at Masirah. Left of my own volition as a Sergeant Armament Fitter then worked in Saudi for a short time on Lightnings before moving to Dubai. Took a change of direction in career and moved into aircraft operations and later corporate ground handling. Retired now living in the Philippines. Always interested to exchange views and opinions or just simple banter.

Halloo and welcome to the Goat, another plum to the pud. Get posting. You sound old, until I count back the years and realise it's 31 since I signed the line.

hi mate welcome, you have taken your time!......30plus years for me to since i took the queens shilling(infact i think i got about 1.80 when i attested).

Welcome, like above we are (some of us) of the senior fraternity (I was 1971) and remember the good old days. You seem to have had an interesting post 'RAF' career, why not enlighten the 'Goat' on your exploits?

Welcome from an Ex-40th AWM.

Hello and welcome. Sounds like a brilliant place to live - how long have you been living there?

It's not bad at all, like anywhere there is some period of adjustment. After leaving the mob I failed to keep fully up to date with my Nat Insurance contributions so am on a 64% pension which would not do much for me at all in the UK, but is a useful sum here. Been living here for a little over 10 years (retired for around three of those). Have a three acre smallholding and kick back most of the time waiting to fix a sundowner (passable Vodka at under a pound a bottle)

Be happy to "enlighten", need a few days to get some personal matters out of the way first

What the F***s a Tornado ??? Lightnings were my forte

I'm obviously too young to remember Lightnings in service but always thought, after the Vulcan, it was a great looking bit of kit.

KingGuin - Too young to remember lightnings' - Next thing you will be saying all the good postings had gone before you joined- Gan, Masirah and all those lovely exotic places !

LMAO. Tis true, they ceased to exist when I joined and I had to listen to my WO waxing on about them. However a couple of years ago I was fortunate enough to visit the majority of those great places whilst on det. Now my troops ask me where Gatow and Belize are......
