I enlisted shortly after conscription had ended, my sanity was doubted by the DI's who didn't understand the word volunteer! During the 1960's 'did time' at RAF; Bridgenorth ( I should be glad of a live link to Haydns website as I have lost mine), Melksham for trade training, Conningsby - 35 Squadron Vulcans, Khormaksar - 105 Squadron Argosy's and late on 84 - Bevs. I should like to chat with anyone from those days especially anyone who was on those Squadrons/Stations at that time. 1962 saw the Cuba missile crisis and that thought still makes my blood run cold, the threat of imminent full blown neuclear war was four minutes away! Cheers. Rog

Welcome to the goat!:PDT_Xtremez_19: blimey the only Argosy's I ever saw were parked up at Halton!!!!:PDT_Xtremez_31:

I flew from Cyprus to Malta on one in 74.

Welcome aboard old timer you are even older than me which is a good thing:PDT_Xtremez_30:

From the 'old timer'!

From the 'old timer'!

Thanks guys. I was an Instrument basher and gas man. The Argosy was not the most interesting kite in the world, bit like a flying in a boxvan! It's most useful function was delivering mail to Swaziland and bring grocery's back for the married guys. I haven't been to Halton yet but I have been to Hendon - no Argosy but they do have a Vulcan, I admit to drooling over it whilst my wife looked on with an 'oh my god 'look in her eyes..women just don't understand! Whilst in Aden the Argosys were used to drop para's into the desert states etc and then bring 'em back for casavac!! I really did pick the right outfit, who'd be a Pongo?
