Hi Guys
I'm ex Fleet Air Arm with a slant, in that my dad was in the RAF so I spent my pre RN life on RAF bases I also spent a short time assigned to an RAF base so possibly a unique view on the two Forces.

Hello Sailor!! Welcome to the Goat. I don't suppose you've got a fuel tank sender for a 1976 Morris Marina have you?

Welcome to the Goat rictic, did you serve on the Ark Royal and is so which one? I had a tour around the old Ark in the early 70's (lots of Toombs and Buccs) by the Fleet Air arm but they would not take us below 8 decks as they said that the lifeforms below that were sub-human!

Morris Marina sender nope sorry, the thought of Marinas give me nightmares nowadays. The name makes me think of a puppet I used to fancy in stingray

Yes I was on the Ark, the real one R09 not the dinky toy they have now. Got as far as 8 deck, not bad. I used to go a little deeper, the magazines continued down a little further.
Were you onboard during Flight deck operations? They were a total adrenaline buzz particularily night time operations.

They fcuking lied to you then, the lifeforms were superhumans not subhumans the navy called them weapons articifers or something but they are armourers to you and I and a very sociable bunch of chaps.

Welcome matelot and bonjour as they say in gay pareee

Hey hey. . . a golden rivet boy. Sorry about that, one of those moods this morning, everyone's getting grief.

Know anyone with a speedo for a Honda Deauville and do you think Jade Goody would get it?

While I'm here - welcome and enjoy

You got me, yep I was an armourer, a bombhead. We had to be sociable, there were fifteen of us living together in a space about the size of my sitting room.

Unfortunately no, I was on detachment at Malta in 1971 with the big Tin Triangles when the Ark Royal came into the Grand Harbour for some R&R after a lengthy cruise. So there was no flying but it was still an impressive visit.

I will always remember the amount of aircraft shoe-horned into the hangar deck and the minute living space for the guys, triple bunk beds (they hot bedded) and 2 small lockers. However, I had to smile when I saw that 25% of the living space was taken up by a table, 4 chairs and an Uckers board.

We were drinking is Straight Street (commonly known as The Gut for those who know of it) when the guys of the Ark were given their first night of shore leave, what a night that was but that will have to be a story for another post.

Table and 4 chairs??? my mess was too small for that we sat on bunks facing one another with the uckers board on our knees. I got my pocket picked in the gut while having a bj. That was a great area. got drunk had my pocket picked had a bj what more could a matelot hope for on a run ashore.
Do you remember Marsovin, the only wine you drink with coke cos it tastes so bad but dirt cheap.
