help needed

Right computer geeks, pretend I'm stupid and need explaining to in really simple term. I cannot get any sound out of my computer at all. I tunes does not make any sound, youtube, etc. also none of the media players are making any sound, and none of the games i play. It is silent with the normal speakers, and when i plug my headphones in, so i think its a setting tyhing somewhere., i've triesd all the sound things in the control panel and still cant get the fcuking thing to work. I can hear static through the headphones so they are working, and can hear myself through the mic,

Or, if you've still got your install disks, try reinstalling the drivers (one of which will be for your sound card).

Noddy - but as well as the volume bits in Control Panel, if you click down near the clock to extend the icons list, there should be a volume slider there too - just check that that one isn't set to mute.

After making sure the mute option has not been selected, I would then open the case and check the soundcard is connected properly - it could just be a loose connection. Just pull it out, blow the dust off and pop it in again.

Also check the POST (the beeps you get when you first switch the computer on). Depending on the make there will be a series of long & short beeps; anything different to the norm indicates a particular part of the computer not working properly. You will probably need to look on the manufacturer's website to translate the 'codes'.

FFS don't do it! Donkey porn is a staple of every real mans life.
