hi guys, im 16 almost 17 and i want to join the RAF as a weapons systems officer, i have got the right qualifications and such underneath my belt. Plus, i will learn a-levels there, it is such a big thing to sign up to the raf.

My plan is to have 4 months of traning and general fitness to help the chance of passing fitness test better, then ill sign up.

I have looked on the RAF website many of times, is it as good as it sounds when your actually there? And is this a sensible career path to take?

You say you're 16 and you have the right qualifications already, but you also say you'll learn A-levels there, where exactly?
Sorry, but your grammar, punctuation and syntax is rubbish, you want to apply to join the RAF as an Officer and the CIO will not put you forward to go to OASC if you're not up to scratch.
Oh, and it's not as simple as just signing up.

OK, lets start. The Minimum Qualifications are just that Minimum most people will not get a look in with only the Minimum.

I take it you wrote that message in haste and therefore did not put the effort in to punctuation and grammar. i would however advise re-reading anything you put in writing (it saves time and effort in the long run)

i would finally like to say don't let anyone put you off if you want it hard enough that you are willing to put 100% in to it then that is all you can do.

good luck anyway

I was in a rush, and who cares about the grammar, as long as it still makes sense.

Well can't you learn a-levels there? I thought they supported your education/sport activities?

Welcome to the goat but what I've highlighted is what's fundamentally wrong with the youth of today !

Crack on.................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

The people who will decide whether or not you have a slipshod attitude or whether you are determined and talented enough to do whatever it takes to join the RAF are the ones who care about your Grammar, appearance and ability. I suggest you start concentrating now.

Hmmmm, Hello.

Hmmmm, Hello.

Welcome to the Goat.

As an aside, I agree with all of the respondents to your initial mail. The majority of my colleagues (German) have a better understanding of sentence construction in English than British youth.

In addition, you are not "learning your A-levels" but studying towards gaining A-level qualifications or equivalent academic qualifications.

It is rare that I post on the Goat, but sometimes, I do shake my head in despair.

My learned colleagues have said most of what I was going to post already.

You come on here and state that you wish to be a Queen's Officer, potentially putting you in a command situation over the likes of people such as me and others on here, senior NCO's and Warrant Officer's with certainly over 20 and in some cases over 30 years service to Her Majesty. Yet you are fundamentally illiterate and are demonstrating extremely poor powers of communication. We cannot help but draw other inferences about the kind of person that you are; certainly not the kind that deserves the Sovereign's Commission, that is for sure. The above quotation is ample demonstration of that fact. You may cite flippancy on your part in your defence, but that will cut no ice with the Boarding Officers at OASC - and I have sat in front of those intimidating gentlemen myself.

Go away, get an education (though I fear it is too late for that) and come back with a more mature attitude and the ability to communicate effectively.

Its like the blind leading the blind!!

What has been pointed out on here, some more gently than others, is the fact that basic written communication is vitally important. As far as I am aware all the applications forms have to be filled in by hand and the quality of the application form is the start of the 'assessing process'. Any form thats filled out badly, has loads of crossings out and contains weak grammar will go to the bottom of the pile.

Enjoy messing around on the goat and if you wish to ignore the basic rules for sentence construction then fine, just don't expect everyone to be very receptive. Many of us are, as has been said quite long in the tooth but there is nothing that will get us riled than an individual who abuses the rules of the English language. You have been warned!

PS My Grammar and spellings isn't 100% and I try to get by without a spell checker as it forces me to use my brain or go and look it up in a dictionary.

I think the point about spelling and so on has been made loud and clear.

If we haven't all scared the OP away hopefully he'll get stuck into the forums...
