I left 9 years ago after doing 10 years as a sumpie and generally I was the only bird at most places I worked.
My only tip is that no matter what, keep an open mind.
Oh and also if any fecker gives you grief cos they think that you aren't as good as them because you are a bird, then don't waste your breath arguing the toss with them, just do your job and prove to them they are talking b*llocks. And it will really p*ss them off if they think they haven't got to you.
DT_Xtremez_30:. The ones that usually do it are the ones that are crap at their jobs themselves. And they've small kn*bs, so the rest of the guys told me anyway.

I had a Sgt who treated me like a freshfaced LAC even though I'd just finished my fitters course and done 6 years. I didn't bother complaining to him or anyone else, I just did my job to the best of my ability and put up with all the crap jobs that I got that the other JTs didn't. In the end we actually became quite good mates and at my leaving do he said that I was the best JT he'd ever worked with. He said he'd always hated women being in the RAF, especially in engineering. Sadly I didn't change his opinion on that I just changed his opinion about me. He was an ex-flem though so I'll let him off.

Good luck to both of you Fiona and Sparra. Oh and one last bit of advice, make sure you enjoy it. You'll see a fair amount of negative stuff on here and to be honest 9 years ago I would have been doing my fair share of whinging but I did really love it too. I think most other people do too (go on admit it, you love that life in a blue/dessie suit!) but it's just not the done thing to say it too loudly.
In the RAF you get to do stuff that you would never have the opportunity to do in civvie land. Go for it and make the best of it.
