Hello,

I'm 22 and currently studying ICT at uni, want to join the RAF (been wanting to join for a while) as an personnel support or ICT technician.

Oh and i'm a Muslim ;)

Welcome to the Goat mate. Got to ask - what has you being a muslim got to do with anything?

The RAF is a meritocracy... If you're good enough - you get promoted... be you male, female, green or yellow. Sexual orientation and religion do not come into it. Why did you feel the need to mention your religion? (I'm a Jedi btw)

just to let people on this board now that there are muslim people who want to serve their country as well. sorry if i caused any offence:)

Doesn't offend me one bit mate. You'd be surprised how many non-believers like yourself :PDT_Xtremez_14: are actually serving in HM Forces.....

(do no under estimate the power of the force btw)

Wotcha matey - welcome - you doing a degree??? Have you thought of a commission (if there are any...) as opposed to "support personnel" or ICT tech?

Oh and

Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

:)

It's a non starter, AFAIK your not allowed to join up with athsma.

I've been out of the mob for quite some time now so probably not the right person to ask - have a look at the recruitment fora - there may be someone better qualified to answer...

The "old" commissioned "trade" was Communications/Electronics branch - dealing with communications (:) ) - but that I would imagine has been expanded to take IT under it's wing these days.

The other option would be to pop into the nearest recruiting office and have a chat with the guys in there - they'll be up to date with any info you'd need

I recommend you for 'X' and you pay me some wonga!:PDT_Xtremez_19:

The asthma may be a problem for you...I would contact an AFCO now to avoid looking forward to something that may not be possible for too long. And welcome.

thanks for all the information you have provided.

damn i believed that asthma only hindered some jobs/careers like being a pilot and that i would be able to get other roles.

plan on contacting AFCO to find out more.

unfortunately Realist78 i'm out of wonga as well, i always thought of commission to do with ssc of 3-6 years and or pc. Guess one learns everyday:).

I've got asthma. Can I join the RAF?

* Certain medical conditions rule out RAF service. Applications will be rejected if you suffer or have suffered from asthma in the last four years. However, if you have been diagnosed previously as suffering from asthma but have remained symptom-free for a continuous four-year period, you may be considered for RAF ground service but not aircrew.

Taken straight from the RAF Careers FAQ mate.

As always though, the AFCO are the final arbiters and would be worth a shout

Yeah i've seen this on RAF Careers FAQ, but thought it was relevant to the pilots:(

will still check with AFCO

Welcome to the Goat A3,

Hope you get lucky with the AFCO.

As Vim and Weebl have said the AFCO will have all the relevant info (especially up to date stuff such as which trades/branches are recruiting) so that should be your first port of call.

They may also give you info about trades that you've not even considered (or heard of!).

Just try and remember though....

The Goat is for life... not just recruiting!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

HTB

PS, as also previously mentioned...It don't matter what you are, but who you are!

Hi mate welcome to the goat

It seems pretty clear from previous posts that you must have been asthma free for at least 4 years before you will be considered for service.

I would advice you not to apply until you have been asthma free(at least as far as your medical records are concerned) for 4 years.

Others may disagree but i think if you give your name and mention asthma and make make enquirys prior to the 4 year period it will stick to your application when you finally make it like a piece of sh!t.

Best of luck 252

I dont think my asthma will get any better even though i am hitting the gym and jogging regularly, was told my lung capacity is smaller than average.

I will have to talk to them and ask about my options
