New to forum.

I have a question if you don't mind. Back in June my son failed a medical for an aircraft technians job. It was because his septum needed realigning. He had broken it a couple of times playing rugby at school. Anyway. He has been in contact with the NHS. This has been fairly quick and he is now booked in for surgery next week.

In the meantime, the RAF recruiter rang him and asked what was going on as he hadn't had any feedback from the medical. He explained that the RAF doctor had told him he would be passed once he got his nose straightened.

The recruiter told him there was a doubt this was the case as he may have to wait for a year after surgery.

Anyway, this was followed up by a letter to say his application has been rejected on medical grounds but he can appeal.

Therefore the question is - can he appeal once the surgery is done and does this mean he has passed the medical, can he re-apply from scratch, or does this mean he wasting his time applying again?

Appeal

Appeal

There's no point in re-applying as he's got this far. Definitely appeal ... this means they will re-assess his situation and may change their minds? I appealed my medical (totally different issue though) and they accepted it. I'm led to believe this is extremely rare ... but that didn't stop me and it worked out. Good luck as I know how failing your medical feels and he must be gutted. Cheers.

Hi I had a similar sounding operation a few years ago. I was in hospital for just one night. When I left I was signed off for a month but was up and about in two weeks. I don't see any reason he would have to wait a year, I know the RAF doctor didn't give me a year off!
