Hi, I'm very new to the site, only found out about it 20 mins ago. I'm currently going through the application process to enter the RAF as a student nurse. If anyone has any information about specialist interviews for this trade it would be very welcome.
Also my fiance is in the Army, does anyone know if tours can be arranged for the same time so we aren't both out the country at the same time? does such a cross service "arrangement" exist? I'm pretty sure the answer is no but if anyone has any other information to add that would be great.
Thanks
H

Greeting's; A very (belated) Merry Christmas to you and a Happy new year.

Methinks you have answered that yourself ! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Obi Wan, thank you so much for your enlightening answer, i really do appreciate it. As I currently have no forces experience I was hoping to speak to some intelectual, knowledgeable and maybe even helpful people....

Back to the point though, is there anyone who has been in a similar situation? How long are operational tours? Are you out there the full time? Please understand I currently know nothing about this side of the forces so please no condescending or patronising answers.

Thank you

Welcome to e-goat spike I hope you will find it very useful whilst applying to join the RAF and hopefully during your service.

If you spend some time perusing the recruitment section all of your answers are to be found there, also if you click on the home tab at the top of the screen and scroll down the page you will find a little box that says search forums where you will be able to search away to your little hearts content for all of your answers. If you have any new questions that you cant find for yourself I'm sure there are many members of the goat who will be more than happy to help.

Enjoy, RB. :)

Spike,

From my limited experience of the trade I would say that if you are going in as a student nurse rather than a qualified one then I believe it could be around 5 years (approximately) before you have any sight of an operational tour with 3 years Nurse studies before up to 2 years consolidation at a hospital. So the info might have changed by then, (a direct entrant I think it would still be around 18 months to 2 years from completion of Recruit training).

Op Tour lengths are probably anything from a month to 6 depending on job and specialisation. As far as I am aware, consideration is given to married pers in terms of some stability so that a gap is given between each others tours. Though that could change I suppose if there was an absolute 100% no other person could do it need for you or your other half to be out of the country at similar times.

I'm sure there are far more knowledgable people on here than me but certainly I hope this helps.
