Sing along to the classic Duran Duran number "His name is Rio and he sits up in the stands" But why is he sat there? Football reasons

Phil Jones, once of Blackburn, and Chris Smalling, once of Fulham, are ahead of him at his club he's past it?
His knees are fecked he can't last the tournament pace anymore?
He's past 30, playing on reputation alone, the speed has gone from his legs?

Or the, not for TV or the papers, elephant in the room
His brother has a race hate case against John Terry coming up. He (Rio) now can't stand Terrry and they are best kept apart but England management selected Terry because they think JT can do a football job for the country and Rio in the camp would disrupt harmony.

And the goaters thoughts are?

I can`t understand this media clamour to join up the same defence that got so ruthlessly exposed by an average German team. Wasn`t it Einstein that said madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result ?

It sickens me that there is a suggestion of racism in his lack of selection. He's just not good enough any more FFS.....

Don't care to be honest. It would be a massive surprise to me if England get out of the group stages with or without Ferdinand, they are simply not good enough as a team. Ball retention is poor, lack of cohesion and understanding between players is weak, there are too few technically gifted players to make a difference at international level and the squad all seem to be one minor knock away from suffering a major injury.
But apart from that....:PDT_Xtremez_14:

They had to choose Terry. The thought of him sat at home with his England kit on was too much to take.

Agreed his skills have faded, pace has gone and injuries take to long to get better, he won't play many games for Utd next year either. Time for pipe and slippers and a pundit job with Sky.

His initial omission from the squad was entirely justified, for the footballing reasons many have already alluded to, namely his distinct lack of form at club level, poor injury record and finding himself below Smalling and Jones in the Utd pecking order. He was always the "pacey" centre half option and quite frankly, I find the thought of him trying to shackle Torres, Ibrahimovic, Benzema, Van Persie or Podolski terrifying.

My gripe with the current situation is that we are now in a situation where John Terry is our only proven world class centre half. Our realistic options in position have only 33 caps between them (Lescott, Jagielka, Jones) and crucially, have very little big game experience at either domestic or international level. Combine this with the loss already of Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry (143 caps combined) and you begin to appreciate the massive experience void we are now suffering in the squad as a whole.

This position in my opinion completeley warranted the recall of Ferdinand to the squad, not as a first choice starter but as valuable and experienced cover for Terry and as an older wiser head in the dressing room when and if the bigger games come - bringing in a RB with 1 cap and 2 minutes experience is a joke to be honest. We already have Johnson in position and Jones and Jagielka have filled in at that position for their clubs and provide more than adequate cover in my opinion.

There are obviously non footballing reasons for the decision to leave him out - right or wrong, and we may end up rueing our lack of experience against the best teams in the latter stages.

Thats five times you`ve mentioned experience. If he had experience of winning the big games i`d agree with you, but seeing as he`s no experience of shackling an international team we might as well look to the future.

Let's be honest, the team isn't picked on form (6 Liverpool players?) it's picked on the ramblings of a near senile man.
We're doomed!

Terry is cack too.

I don`t know, he`s turned Johnson into someone who has seen a football before.

I thought the ref was atrocious. Left touchline, GJ leans across/puts an arm across Rubbery`s chest, said frog throws his sen on`t ground clutching his face. The ref comes screaming over (correctly) shouting "Ribery, no, no face". Why didn`t he book him for simulation/cheating/being a French cock ?????

Seems they have already written off any hopes of winning the Euros and put together an experimental squad to gain experience for the 2014 world cup campaign, which Rio definitely won't be a part of.

I thought we were proper cr@p. Stood off and invited them to shoot, we played a flat back 10 with 1 up front! if thats how we are going to play we wont get out of the group.
