Hi i'm new here

I wonder if anyone can help, sorry for the thread being in the wrong place but i'm rubbish at navigating around forums!

I took my AST in December and with the scores I received I decided I would like to apply to become a dental nurse. The person I spoke to at my local AFCO said the position was closed at the time but I'm sure he said it should be open again in April. I've registered my interest so they can notify my when the position becomes available again but since then i've contacted the recruitment page on Facebook to ask if the position will indeed be opening again in April, but each time they said they can't say when it will be open as it goes on the demands of the RAF at that time. My question is do you think the guy in my local AFCO would know more and has given me the correct information? I'm just wondering if I should wait it out or apply for one of the other trades which are open at the moment.

Much help would be appreciated :-) (sorry for any types and the style of writing, i'm on my phone and it's not the best! ;-))

If you've registered for the trade you will be contacted when it opens, the staff at the AFCO won't know when it will or won't open.

If you want to apply for another trade then crack on, but be sure it's actually what you want to do.

Many years ago when I was a recruiter the trades opened March April time depending upon need. We never knew for sure when and how many or even if at all for the smaller trades.

As someone who has taken the test and registered an interest you will be in the system waiting for the trade to open.

Hope this helps!

Whatever you choose to do, make sure that the skills you gain from the trade are transferrable for the inevitable time that you leave.

To be honest, Im surprised that miltary dental nurses are still being recruited, as its an easy role to civilianise.

As far as I'm aware (I'm in the medical world) the plan is for a vast amount of the dental services to be either made Full Time Reservist (FTRS) or civilianised by 2020 under the Defence Medical Services plan. I'd certainly make sure that the AFCO are aware of possible changes to come.

Hi guys

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah that's what I was worried about, I've read similar rumors online. Just didn't want to be hanging on for an email that may never come.
