Hi guys and dolls, just a quick question really.

Because there isn't enough quarters at my next unit I will have to retain my current one. I am approximately 1hour 40min from my next duty station so I can commute it no problem until accommodation is sorted. Am I entitled to htd or will I have to go in a block? Who is the best person to speak to? I've never claimed it before.

Many thanks

You will be able to claim HDT, but it will be capped at 50 miles, less the current 3 mile personal contribution. Any miles done over the 50 miles will be at your own expense.

If you choose to live in, you would receive GYH at whatever the whole distance is between your new unit and your current MQ address. You'd pay food money (unless its PAYD), but you can minimise the cost by submitting leave passes for weekends.

If the problem of obtaining a quarter is for any length of time I would have thought you'd be entitled to SSSA or SSFA (for married people), in other words you should be able to rent somewhere at public expense. That what I do as its more than 50 miles to other available service accomodation. Speak to your adminers, you shouldn't have to do that journey at all.
The very least you should be offered is single accom for the short term until quarters are sorted

Ye I'll speak to them on Monday. The quarter has to be adapted as the wifey has mobility problems, so I may have to wait a short time until after my start date. Just seems a bit of a nause having to mess about getting a block for a short time. Thanks for the replies guys.

Your wife's disability may mean that you can get dispensation to claim up to 70 miles each way.

As regards SSFA - it is not admin you need to go to - its the DHE Area Office for your new unit that will advise you on the process.
