as further to the advances question, why are hotels not paid for like hire cars and flights surely this would be easier? less faffing around claiming advances then having it taken back etc. Or is this too simple? I'm sure there is a reason but with a little will surely it could be made easier for all?

Generally because your stay may increase/decrease at short notice.

Hire cars are usually done through a large contract, with a bill being sent to the unit at the end of the rental period.

I would suggest that this is a local management issue. The stn travel cell and sqn admin offices at my unit pay for the hotels when they make the initial booking using GPCs - I know of several other units where this is also standard practice. The hotel simply debits the card at the end of the stay so no problems with under/overpayment - nice and easy.

As said before, it depends on local policy. Our Travel Cell here pay the bill directly while other units I've been at don't. :PDT_Xtremez_41: It'd be a whole lot easier if they all paid directly rather than the individual paying then claiming it back. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

so it can be done then, as i thought more a lack of interest/will than anything else. If it can be done at some units it should be done across the raf, would save alot of faff. Although I see some courses maybe cancelled or cut short compared, with all admin of advances, chasing up claims and the confusion to some surrounding it all it would be far better to just pay it up front.

I was on a reacher course for 5 weeks and we had to stay in a Hotel for one of them and our travel cell paid for it on the GPC card, I think they book it through the central reservation agency

I've always wondered this too. I've been on several courses where hotel accomodation was required for the duration, and lo and behold, on one occasion, the instructors managed to cut the 2 week course down by 3 days. The only down point about this was that I wasn't allowed to drive the hire car my unit had arranged for me until the last official day of the course which meant 2 extra nights in the hotel. I had already claimed an advance because I can't afford 3 weeks in a hotel up front, but when i tried to claim for those last 3 days they tried to do me for fraud.

so much easier if they make it a single rule for the whole MOD to prepay for the duration, if it's cut short then it's in their interest to claim back the fees, not my fault is it?

Ridiculous

Ridiculous

I'm married with three children. I simply do not have the money to pay for hotels up front. I don't have credit cards and I am never over my overdraft so the RAF is encouraging me to spend money I don't have to go somewhere that they want me to go to. My A**E!

And that is why the MoD give you the facility to claim your expenses in advance so that in theory you are not out of pocket!!!!! Jeez some people

But should you need to ?

Our admin department is considerably smaller than the RAF's but still manages to get us all booked in hotels and airline tickets paid for....IF we have a problem (we do every now and then) then a call to the office is all it takes to get sorted.....I do have to pay for taxi's etc. but send off receipts and paid back next month....along with any "per diem" food claims (up to £55 per day).

Crack on.....................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Mate I dont see a problem either way. The only problem i see is a chimp who says the Air Force is forcing him to spend money he doesnt have. When in fact they will give him the money up front.

IF they think about it and claim it...how long does it take.....what about short notice dets etc ?

not sure thats an improvement? i quite like the fact i keep my receipts and get my money in about 3 days

But my receipts are for relatively small amounts.....not hotels etc.....in a normal 2 month period my expenses will be no greater than £200......however when on a course it could be in excess of £800 but receipts are only required for taxis.......all food is "per Diem" @ £55 per day so no receipts required :-)
