Hi Guys & Girls

Just a quick one!

How long do you have to serve in a particular rank (SNCO) to acquire its' pension rights? Is it still two years?

Cheers

Depends which pension scheme you are in - if you are on AFPS75 then yes it's 2 years - for the new one AFPS15 then no as it's earnings based - not sure about AFPS05 as not on it. Besides, as of 1 Apr 15 everyone (except for a few exceptions who had less than 10 years to go to Age 55 on a pre-determined date) will be on AFPS15. Of course, the caveat being, any pension rights you aquired prior to this date will be frozen and apply at the rank you subsequently leave the RAF at. Confused.........just google AFPS, you will find shed loads of info.

Cheers BW I'm in AFPS75/15 so that's kind of what I thought. Thanks for the quick answer mate!

Afps75/15

Afps75/15

Earnings based from AFPS 15 date to exit, or for the whole time in.?
1 April15 to exit is earnings based. Your service prior to that is reassessed on departure, calculating it at your then-rank for pension. So, for example, you were a SSgt on31 March 15 but a WO1 with 2 yrs in that rank when you left, your AFPS 75 pension would be worked out on that basis.

If you are a Forces Pension Society member contact pensionenquiries@@forpen.co.uk and David or Anthony will set this out for you, using your particular circumstances.
