If this were true today how many aircraft would we still have flying...

If the RAF today grounded all their 20-year old aircraft...

... wouldn't it go quiet?

I reckon just grounding their thirty year old aircraft would probably reduce the noise level quite a bit.

Just hope it doesn't happen any time soon.

Yet how ironic and bizarre that we still have a couple of Hurricanes and Spitfires in the RAF, but not a single Hunter or Javelin.

One of those aircraft is still flying in the RAF, abet after a total rebuild thanks to a crash in 1991.

Though back in the 1960's the RAF could do displays like below with 'Service' Aircraft, something that could not be done today.

At a guess, if you got rid of all of the 20 year old airframes, you would be left with the Harriers, Tucano's, Sentries, C-17s, Merlins, Typhoons and a few late build Tonkas / F3s.
