Now as proper IT biff most of the IT related stuff knocking around the interweb just passes me by but this keeps cropping up on various news feeds Chinese phone company Huawei and the apparent associated security concerns. Is it much ado about nothing or a cyber version of something like the VW emissions scandal or is it more like Cambridge Analytica in bed with Facebook. Are the dastardly Chinese secretly harvesting vast quantities of our data through their numerous devices it's not like Apple would stoop so low.

I think all this data sharing is more worrying for me, I jumped out of Android a couple of years ago when it became obvious that Android phones weren’t getting the security updates they needed due to the multiple iterations of the OS. I’m not saying other systems are totally secure, I am saying that they try to be more secure.

Also worried about how the sellers of $100 handsets make more money from your data, than they do the phone.

From a security point of view the www to me feels a bit like the old Wild West, it needs a little taming

I feel sorry for the people of North Korea who buy a mobile phone from their leader shop. Must weigh a ton as you get a free slave to carry the load.

Slightly Off Topic but along the same lines; how many of you have these ‘personal assistants’ like Alexa in your house. Internet connected devices listening carefully to your every word. I’ve seen more than a few articles written about how the terms and conditions for these things are very opaque. Do people worry about what exactly is done with the information these devices receive? A lot of people will receive these things for Xmas and children will also be finding internet enabled toys under the tree. I remember when Samsung was called out because their smart TV’s had been recording people’s conversations!

Alexa and similar devices collate stored information and search for standard patterns. Like the mugs who buy into the idea (CLOUD) is safe from prying eyes, it not it a glorified FTP Server. Thats why the market to sell small HDD laptops or Tablets make you want CLOUD. T+Cs will have in small print a clause saying at anytime Federal Authority has the right investigate material on any FTP storage. This will be due to that most CLOUD storage are based in America for Google Microsoft and Apple Linux BSD and other UNIX. Small storage facilities in UK or EU are limited but adequate for personnel usage. Frankly I prefer to use a mobile HDD via a USB port or on certain ADSL+ Modems have NAS and USB Storage but hey people want a talking box. Merry Christmas everyone.:PDT_Xtremez_30:
