A true legend that will be honoured at the SOL on Saturday when we play Reading when members of the 1973 FA Cup winning team will join today’s players on the pitch in honouring Ian. I had the privilege of seeing him play at the old Roker Park and he was a real cultured player who had a genius left foot, second only to the legendary Jim Baxter.

As Ian also managed Reading as well as playing for Sunderland, I hope both sets of fans give him a send off to remember.
 
An abiding memory of the 1973 cup final was the commentator's single word utterance as the ball was crashed into the Leeds net..
