Whatever your views on the reasons our trade is in a bit of a mess at the moment, a few things seem to be known:
  • Recruitment is down
  • PMA (or whatever they’re called this week) are both on the move to HW and going through a 40% manning reduction. ( I know its not our problem, but we still need to manage it to some extent)
  • Promotion has slowed down considerably
  • We don’t really know what proportions of what trades/ranks we have in which posts
  • We don’t really know what proportions they need to be in the future. (Big problem!)
  • We still don't fully know where/why it has gone wrong
  • There are an awful lot of unknowns
Here’s a radical idea; why don’t we (TG4 as whole) put a moratorium on all movement for 12 months. Clearly we can’t just tell PMA to ‘get lost’ when the workflow pops up, but if Trade Sponsor stopped all movement it could:
  • Allow them stability to properly work out what is where
  • Allow them to work with PMA in establishing what we want to do.
  • Allow PMA to get their house in order
  • Release them to start banging on the doors of IPTs (Predator/JSF etc) to tout for more TG4 business (we really need this!)
  • Let all TG4 personnel know where they will be for the next 12-18 month minimum.
What does everyone think? Would the benefits out way the disadvantages? (Obviously there would be some exceptions e.g. DWR)

There are two ways of meeting difficulties: you alter the difficulties, or you alter yourself to meet them.

Not sure what you'd get by stopping Manning (PMA in old money) from drafting for that time. Remember, they don't control the establishment/disestablishment/movement/upgrading or downgrading of posts. They just fill established vacancies, to FMDL where necessary. It would appear that whoever controls your posts (Trade Sponsor ?) is not communicating themselves to you very well. The issues you've mentioned would seem to come within the responsibility of a Trade Sponsor IMO.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Who is a complete Cock......

That is the best post I have seen on here for a long time.

There you go! the answer to all the problems in the first post. If only they had done nowt.

Thank you Mug?, though it is the case that I saw an ex TG11 F/S CISM call him that a few weeks ago, so its not just the ex TG3 guys that cannot stand the idiot.

From what I've heard, His communication consists of "if you don't like the way the trade is going, PVR". The trade was going quite well until he got his dirty little mits on it.

PD TC...you will never get promoted with an attitude like that. Sounds too much like a good and sensible idea!!!!

Just out of interest, what do TG4 do on these platforms?

Maintenance of the ground side of the system in the case of the 39 Sqn UCAVs (its all Satcom / IT based).

Example of what I'm talking about below

JSF will most likely be like the Typhoon in that it requires a host of ground based computer support systems to be operated as a combat aircraft.

I've heard that there is going to be TG4 slots on the new tanker the buzz words from those on top is "air platforms" that where the trade will be heading

wHAT GOES ROUND...literally

wHAT GOES ROUND...literally

I also heard we would be employed on the E-3Ds (Sentry)
but that never happened.

We seem to have somehow gone from the new trade to support NEC to helpdesk and Desktop support?

From another post I have just learned we have signed a deal for a new radar.
So much for legacy disappearing.

As an aside I read somewhere that 39 Sqn is tri-service so I guess we will get pushed out of there by the guys who like wearing green.

Most likely the E-3D project boys asked the TG3 sponser for personnel to do the mission support kit and got told no, I've not got the people to spare. It almost happened on Typhoon GGS until the boss at A6 told the sponser to say Yes (I know that as fact in that a Typhoon project officer at the time told me).

And who we blame for that????

From another post I have just learned we have signed a deal for a new radar.
So much for legacy disappearing.

Its an upgraded T101 with a soild state transmitter system, most of the rest of the kit is as far as I know is the same as a standard T101. Legacy equipment was never going to be gone in the time frame that you know who said it was going to.

As an aside I read somewhere that 39 Sqn is tri-service so I guess we will get pushed out of there by the guys who like wearing green.

If you havent done time on TCW, you will not get on 39 Sqn period anyway.

Let the sponsors get out there and tout for buisness and slots. Instead of blowing roses up their own back passages.

Re allocate some jobs back to CIS tech from IM. leaving less movement?
Get us some CIS tech slots on these typhoon sqns, actually on the sqns and not just a central pool. Cis techs working for TG 1/2 CTs seems absurd to me still. Get us the lead role on the new UAVs. Get us into the security side instead of the coppers. Fight for the use of uniform techies at station level. Look to the future requirement for CIS techs instead of trying to expand the IM side.
I don't want to start a fight but until we get the recruits in and the right people get some experience some of the ex 11 cannot show what we are capable of as a trade.
I've worked in IT and done IT OOA and not once did I need 6 weeks of courses at Microsoft certified establishments or indeed did I need to be Cisco qualified? Why do the new IMs need that now?

I think Mug is right on a number of points. RAFP should never have been in IT Sec and if you are going to have a CIS Trade, then let the CIS tradespeople do the CIS work. (Admittedly there will need to be a few exceptions)

I see a significant problem that some of the people in the TS office have now been there too long. With the best will in the world, the people who have been in the TS office now for a few years ago will not be able to look objectively at what as gone wrong; they will be tainted with the work they did. It needs fresh blood and a fresh look at this mess.

Like them or loath them, they have a made a huge difference; now is the time for them to move on.

All the more reason for a period of stability/non- movement. Lets get it right this time!!!!

Do nowt ??

Do nowt ??

You have an auggie comms flt doing precisely nowt?. These guys and gals are desperate to qualify and do their bit. They have personnel with a long list of IT / DII / Comms / Microsoft / EW / Crypto / drinking / and other qualifications, who WANT TO DO SUMMAT !!! Because most can only get time in for on major ex a year, along with career courses, it is sometimes difficult for them to support their given role(s) all the time. We really fear this flight is going to the wall

Let the sponsors get out there and tout for buisness and slots.

Having been out of the mainstream TG3/4 enviroment for most of the year. I had no idea of who was the boss at the sponser officer, found out this week who it was and I'm sad to say having had the misfortune of working for the Snake in the Grass No 1, that is never going to happen.
