Hello all,

I believe it is customary to introduce oneself when joining the forum, so here I am doing just that...

I am 25 and was initially looking to apply to either Intelligence Officer or ABM, but seeing as the only one of my 9 A*-C GCSE's that was a C was Maths, and the new criteria for those posts is a B in Maths, I can't now do that.

So...registered my interest with the 0845 number for Flight Ops Officer as it looks like a very varied role whilst still being in the thick of it, as it were.

Willing to be corrected by anyone with the requisite experience/biased opinion/flagrant dislike for anything of the sort of course, and having trawled some of the boards it seems there are a few opinions out there!

But anyway thats me, just waiting for an email to say that the post is open for recruiting again, and in the mean time doing as much reading as I can to gen up.

Peace and love :PDT_Xtremez_19:

Feed the Goat...?

Feed the Goat...?

I also heard that you can feed the Goat and he will score...fact or fiction?!

In the first round of redundancies announced in March they plan to get rid of up to 16 Flt Ops Officers. I would suggest that with the RAF contracting any requirement for Flt Ops officers would probably be filled with experienced people from other branches. You may be waiting for a while for that email.

On a lighter note why would you want to join a branch that will equip you with very only limited skills or knowledge beyond the boundaries of the RAF? Most people can get the hang of answering the telephone after a modest amount of instruction and repeating the phrase "I'll just ask the Corporal" doesn't take much learning. You would also have to suffer the indignity of admitting to you friends and family what you did for a living, to gain their respect you would have to lie and tell them you entertained sailors in dark alleys for money .

(The above is a personal view based on thirty + years of dealing with chimps and should not be interpreted as the ramblings of a jaded, bitter old git. I cannot be held responsible for the bile that spouts for my mouth/keyboard and almost any occasion without provocation. If any junior officer uses the words "Cool" "Awesome" or the phrase "Good, Good" in any conversation regarding aircraft movement information I will not be responsible for the sarcasm that will descend on them.)

P.S. I thought the phrase was "Feeding the Ponies" (With appropriate had movements.)

J Y Kelly; I did ask the guys about that, and I was reliably informed that the recruitment would be opening up again...though it would be interesting to hear from others with the experience quite how reliable that assertion is! Watch this space I suppose...

And I think whether you are feeding the Yak or the Goat depends on whether you are of a City or Boro persuasion...being neither, I had thought the Goat came first, and fondly remember the original Soccer AM game. Do I sound old now?! Best get some "awesome" and "cool" references in quick smart :S

Mind you there were FOM's who were best described as "Differently Abled."

Well that didnt take long to get some FOO bashing going! Though I suppose I did ask for it, requesting opinions and all that...

If it helps, I do make a smashing brew...don't have boobs and a short bob haircut though?!

Welcome wannabeefoo.

I like the vid, but where did all the acronyms go?

I am glad to see Arfer Phuksayke was a consultant on that project.
