This is a guess, but as some jpegs etc have the possibilty to contain viruses maybe it's a setting in your anti virus software?

What we are seeing here me old china, is your settings, assuming you are using Outlook?

Go to Tools>Options>Security and check that the block images & other external content in HTML email box is unchecked.

This should sort it out.
