I know this is cheeky but after being away on Force Development training overseas (a free holiday), does anyone know if i can claim for incidental expenses while away for the week?

Regards

Off Topic Slightly...

If I'm eating in the mess, on det, I can still claim incidentals right?Off Topic

Depends what kind of det, I was under the impression that if you did say a two week det in the states then you could claim. However, if it a 'proper' det then you can't as welfare facilities are provided for you which is what IE is designed to provide.

I'm sure someone will be along soon with the correct facts :PDT_Xtremez_26:

Well, we've claimed for APC at Cyprus, and that's an RAF camp (a "proper" det?), so I don't think there will be a problem (I remember the first time we only put £5 a day in until we realised it was £10 a day overseas!):PDT_Xtremez_28:

I think by proper det he meant OOA, not a holiday camp in Aki.:PDT_Xtremez_28:

Check JSP 752 Section 6 for current rates for allowances.:PDT_Xtremez_15:

Did you know if on duty (includes GRT) you stop the night with family/friends you can claim a flat rate of £26 Night Subsistence. I didn't, a mate put me onto it - top man.

So, what is the gen on this then? Can you claim IE for every day spent on "det" aka OOA, that's a hefty wedge, and I've not heard of anyone doing that.

Or, is it just short term "dets" to holiday camps like Aki and Kinloss :PDT_Xtremez_30::PDT_Xtremez_30:

Incedentals

Incedentals

I know when we go to "Butlins" Seeb for our stint, we aren't able to claim any incedental expenses because we are given a Telephone card of 30mins per week, there is a laundry facility, internet, as well as tv's and a few other items assist our welfare.

OOA dets i believe have welfare packages set up so we have no need to claim IE. short term dets and courses in hotels or mil accom allow you to claim IE.

The only time i have claimed IE (£10) was last year when cyclone Gonu hit Seeb and we had to go to Thumrait. The lovely adminer found us the only hotel without a bar in Salalah. But thats another story.

If you're OOA then you will be on Field conditions and the OWP, therefore you wont get IE or subsistance. JSP 752 Chap 3, page 3-1-6.

If you're under different circumstances then you may well be able to claim something whetehr UK or overseas, just at different rates but the minute you are put on field conditions then all bets are off, no IE or subsistance.

I was rather ineloquent in my explaination others have done better...

OOA - OWP, no IE
Holiday Dets - Aki, DM, Yuma, Lossie- No OWP ergo IE

As I've always thought of it. I was just a tad concerned there was some big secret everyone else knew about and I'd been getting mugged off!

I'll read the JSP a-la ILLBW stylee when I get 5 minutes.

Would Asi be considered OOA when considering IE. Welfare package I have been told doesn't exist. No phone cards, just stopped I think, no tinternet, no newspapers, couple of £ a min to phone home and LOA reduced to about 80p a day cos they cant buy papers, go to cinema or subscribe to porn on the net.
These issues on the welfare package have been relayed by current personnel as review has just taken place..true or untrue...who knows.
Grateful for any advice as 1 of my guys on the way there. Thanks.

If you are getting LOA, however small the amount, you can kiss IE goodbye no matter how shiite the package you have. If you were down on an exped then you probably could but not for a 6 month assignment. And anyway, 6 months on a subtropical island working a couple days a week and he wants extra??? :PDT_Xtremez_35: :raf: MP, I hope you claimed your £30 for CSAM.. :PDT_Xtremez_27:

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you should read it, just giving the reference if you ever need to quote it, bad habit.

Of course, JP was on the case with the gen!

Off Topic, but didn't you find Pirbright mess unusually palatable?
