HI all, ive heard a few things about indulgence flights from brize out to all the places they fly, specifically Cyprus, going on a holiday there in august and trying to score some cheaper flights.

Any info on this subject would be much appreciated!

And have a read of JSP 800, Vol2, Chap 8. The only thing which puts me off is the possible unavailability of returns flights - especially at that time of year.

£51 to cyprus - £44 back from cyprus.

Since the VC10 trooper was replaced by a contractor a few months ago the seat availability has improved, coupled with the fact that you now need a signature from God to travel off island on duty and the chances of an indudgence have probably never been better. If you do get stuck here there are a lot of flights from either Paphos or Larnaca that would get you back to the UK relatively cheaply. Jet2 is a recent addition from Paphos for cheap flights so it is worth checking them out if you want a bit more certainty.

So if jet2 are flying is it worth the hassle of an indulgence flight. You be able to get there but not getting back and then paying over the odds on scheduled flights. I'd just pay the jet2 prices then you are guaranteed a seat.

Me too. But it is important to check that flight costs include the airport tax, if they don't then you can add about another 100 Euro to the price.

Even though the trooper is now operating under Monarch, this hasn't increased seat availability as MoD is only paying for the number of pax that the VC10 had capacity to carry. I think increased seat availiability is more likely down to your second point.

That was my understanding but I could be wrong.

You're partly right mate. When Monarch took over the MoD did indeed contract for same number of seats as the VC10 had (126 I think), irrespective of the capacity of ac used. The number of seats was increased to 140 in March. The trooper is now usually a B757 but I don't think Monarch are operating it anymore (Flt prefix AEU rings a bell).

Another website worth looking at is www.flythomascook.com (as opposed to the normal TC Holdays one). This is where they sell off the spare seats on the charter flights, it got me a round trip to the UK in April for less than £100 inc taxes
