I currently posted to a training establishment and have the opportunity of a posting to an AFCO approaching.i will have only completed 2 1/2 years here at the time of the posting My line 'management' are refusing my application as i wont have completed the minimum 3 years in postas far as i can find in AP3378 there is nothing written down to say it is a minimum tour - its seems to be just somethingthat has become accepted and the flip side of the coin is that you can get posted away if manning need you somewhere elseand you cant pull the 3 year ticket out of your pocket to refuse the posting.does anyone know where i can find anywhere that it is written down in black and white saying i must serve 3 years minimum as an instructor - then i'll wind my neck in and get back to being a highly motivated non-disgruntled instructorthanks in advance

If Manning want you in the AFCO post then it shouldn't be an issue.
Manning post you and your workplace don't get a say.

Speak to your drafter.

Your bosses have to sign off on the application, if it doesn't leave Station, Manning can't have you.

If it's a gen app that you're putting in for AFCO duties then your line managers are not allowed to stop it, they can write on it that it's denied due to time in post etc but they must pass it up the chain and on to manning, however, if it's a set form then you will be stuck if your boss won't sign it. I've only been told that it's a 3yr tour by a TE that I'm looking at going to but then as you say that may well just be rumour that's being perpetuated so it becomes true!

Thought minimum time was 18 months before you could move on. May be wrong but thats what I was told before I hopped skipped and jumped into a different role as soon as I completed my 18.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

AFCO duties are on a specific form, not a Gen App. Whether they offically have the right to stop it or nor I don't know.

cheers for the input allhopefully if i can get it to manning then they can either select or reject me i was just wondering if anyone knew where its written down'instructor duties is a 3 year minimum posting' if so i'd accept it ... but all I get is 'everyone knows that' .... its kind off become the accepted norm .. but if its not in black and white then surely i cant be hammered by it

I thought that too for SNCOs but our illustrious drafter won't move me out of the school I've been at for 2 years. Apparently the other issue is that I (because of specialism) am too hard to replace - he didn't like my reply of "not really my problem"!

I applied for AFCO duties, was selected for interview, smashed the interview, was told the job was mine, the drafter even told me i was getting put in the slot imminently.

After not hearing anything for a couple of weeks,
i contacted manning who said my squadron WO had put the stop on the move, because he couldn't let me go!!

He should of told me beforehand to save everyones time/money. Beware!!

3yr set tour is a guidance. If your boss will release you, if the trade sponsor will let you out of trade and if the trade desk can replace you, and if you pass the AFCO interview, then the jobs yours. It realy is that simple, but if one little part falls down, then the 3yr set tour will be thrown back at you.

... and in certain 'Pinch points' this is extended to FIVE YEARS! :raf::PDT_Xtremez_32:
