Hi all, just joined up here in the hope you can answer my question.
I am 34 yrs old born and bred in scotland and have just come back, Dec 2008, from spending 6 yrs working in the USA.
I found out that i was still within the age bracket for joining as an officer in certain positions so i went down to my local AFCO to find out more details.
To cut a long story short after contacting his boss he told me that i would need to have been resident for 5 years previous regardless whether i am British born or not. Well i was gutted, how can this be i thought? So i contacted the army and the navy careers and they would require a residency waiver but said that they would have no problem in taking me (if i was within the age bracket) So why on earth is the RAF different? I called again and was told that this was information they had received direct from Cranwell, so i asked well does it depend on what particular role i would wish to be an officer? as their is more than one position that interests me. I just can't understand why the two other armed forces would accept me but the RAF won't........If anybody could help in clarifying this issue i would be most grateful.
Regards,
Scotstrength
