Hello to all on e-goat,I have just stumbled on this site whilst surfing for old friends.I spent 22 years in the RAF
and most of it in the RAF Fire Service where I was aquainted with many . I say many because I was one of the
guys who gave the boring fire induction course whenever you joined a new Station. I met many others who
were part of 60;64;(old Javlins) 20; and 45 Sqdns (Hunter & Canberra) at Tengah in the sixties. At Gaydon where
we sadly lost one of our Victors (combrooke) Christmas Island (where I remember having to use copious supplies
of water to decontaminate a Canberra's engine nacelles using a scrubbing brush,after it flew through the grapple x
cloud to get samples.(I took much longer decontaminating myself afterwards)
Hemswell in the fifties (can anyone remember Chiefy Hurford 199 Sqdn Disip.)his office was in 2 hangar.
Also at Brize Norton, then Masirah,followed by Scampton from 1971 to demob in 78.(I plugged my headset into
Vulcans whilst checking for hot brakes and venting fuel) I have a few tales to tell about them, one of them being;
'After asking the captain to apply wheel brakes,to allow my crew to check the wheels , I was listening to the after
flight checks over the intercom,someone said, 'Does anyone realize we have been flying without nav lights' to
which another replied,' What does it matter we are the only silly buggars flying at this God forsaken hour of the night'. I cannot remember if it was a 27;or 617 crew.
