(Not sure whether this question should be in this forum or an Auggie forum)

Hopefully, a straight-forward question, with a simple answer...

How is IOT conducted within the RAuxAF?

Several (not sure how many) weekend courses / exercises, followed by a 2 week residential course at Cranwell. Not sure how long the whole thing takes tho.

Does this mean you passed OASC 105? If so, well done.

Re: IOT

RauxAF do ROIT - Reserve Officr Initial Training.

The next one starts some time around November AFAIK. There will be two weekends at Cranwell during thearly part of next year, then two weeks attached to the end of the Regular IOT in June, which includes the exercise, or part of it. I'm booked on that one myself, so if you're on it too I'll see you there.

Hiya 4th.

Nope - was meant to be at OASC later this month, but it's all on hold, as they have thrown yet another hurdle in my path, which will likely take months to resolve...

So Aux officers have to pass OASC first? Then weekend courses then ROIT? Is there an age cut off?

Yes to all of that TM, plus BRC.

OASC first.

Then, if you have no regular or RauxAF non-commissioned service, you have to do the Basic Recruit Course at RAF Halton, 15 days straight (I've just completed mine), where you do first aid, CBRN, weapons. You will have to do some General Service Knowledge before that as you'll be getting a test on it directly you arrive at Halton. If you're coming in from a RauxAF Squadron the GSK and BRC should be organised by them.

BRC is element 1 of your Officer training

BRC provides you with the necessary qualifications to then start on the ROIT.

Thatstarts with distance learning (two HUGE envelopes of info arrived through my letterbox whilst I was at Halton), during which time you should be guided by a mentor from your Sqn. Also during the distance learning, you'll attend 4 weekends at Cranwell. If you're successful in those, that's element 2 complete.

Element 3 is a 14 day attachment to a regular courseincluding a 5 day field exercise. Final day is certificates and Champagne.

The age limit for Officers is currently the day before your 56th birthday (if you've had previous military service, not sure otherwise, but maybe 50), counted AFAIK from the date of your pre-Cranwell P2 interview.

Hurdle jumped - process spooling up again!!!

Hang on in there Dude!

The ROIT course is proving to be just as full of hurdles. We're off on our first weekend in three weeks, and the Flt Cdr keeps moving the goalposts!

Solution is to cam up, deploy in wee hours, cut goalposts off at ground level, take goalposts away, and secure them in alternative loc, out of range of Flt Cdr...

Off Topic

Have had a nice letter from MOD PUS, telling me that my pers data was on the laptop stolen last month in Birmingham...

We're off to see the Wizard (Ooops - wrong alternative reality!)

I'm off to OASC, in May -Yippee!

Having been disappointed a few times in the past, I'm really, really, really hoping nothing goes wrong between now and then!

Any tips you could pass on after attending would be gratefully received - am heading that way myself.

Just Starting the Process

Just Starting the Process

Hi All,

I have just commenced my applications for RAuxAF Officer (Regiment) and although I am no stranger to the military - 22 years Army - any info you could pass onto me about the whole process would be very much appreciated. In particular the Command Tasks at Cranwell.

In addition, can anyone give me a heads up with regard to the swimmng element? It's not my greatest aspect and have already started training.

Many thanks

Mac

Oasc

Well, unfortunately, I wasn't successful at OASC, so have had to give up on that idea until next year...
