Hi there, I'm in the process of applying for a commission. Can anyone tell me whether I could get a married quarter for my family as we are currently based at Lossie and it would be a massive commute. I know that for the first term I would be confined to the block but after that? Also, is IOT 30 weeks long as the brochure says it is, Google has said 36 weeks and an Officer at Lossie has also said 9 months! Many thanks.

Not certain on the regs, but give the HASC a call and they will be able to advise. I commissioned from NI, when MQ were at a premium in province so was give SFA at Cranwell but entitlement was OR SFA until after successful completion of IOT - was '98 though, rules may have changed.

It's 3 x 10 week terms with an opportunity for 2 weeks leave between each term. However, if you are not 'up to standard' you may be placed on remedial training during these breaks. Also, if you are at CRN over summer, you might have to factor in the 2 week Stn Standdown. Of course, if you are really bad you might be recoursed, increasing your stay at the pleasure palace for even longer!Hope this helps.

I understand that for as long as you in IOT, you are in one of the messes. Only in the branch training do they cut you some slack.

The reasoning was two fold -

1. you might get dumped a week after your family get there and have to be moved all over again.
2. It isn't a terribly cohesive thing to have cadets living outside the mess environment, especially as your weekday time does not belong to you whatsoever.

Most people just write it off.

A potential officer who looked to Google first for an answer. And these are apparently the leaders of men?

I don't think he meant for him to live in stevienicks. Just his family.

OP, PM me your email and I'll send you something I put together for visiting FAM visits with gen on IOT. As for google, it's worth a look but take what you find with a pinch of salt. Phone your careers office or visit your education section on station. There is a lot of info on here regarding IOT so try the search button. I graduated in March so my info is quite current. All the best.

Yes you can. As long as there is an expectation that you will serve at a unit for more than 6 months. So yes.
