Hi,

Im looking at volunteering for my next DWR to either Iraq or Afghanistan - could do with the extra money and would like to do somewhere new - Can anyone give me any gen on the accommodation/facilities on either place?

Cheers

Go to Afghan if you must - Kandahar is pretty cushy. Not as nice as Al udeid though - that's like bloody butlins!

Definitely Afghan. I spent 4 delightful months in Basrah last year with 615 rocket attacks against the airport. I hear it's quieter now but I wouldn't go back!

Afghanistan definitely, even Camp Bastion is better than Basra. That said if you don't have your TELIC medla yet then go for Basra, it may not be around much longer!*

*Assesment dependant on PM keeping his word, because he's really reliable when it comes to that!

Afghan mate for sure.... served in both..... afghan is much much better. If you can, get Kandahar which is better than Bastion and Kabul and if nothing else try to get a job behind the wire not top cover which you can end up doing. Having also served on both sides of the wire it's a damn sight nicer behind it!!

Khandahar is good. Busy but not Stoopid, good accomodation, food very good, nice facilities. I enjoyed my tour, in fact it took over from Bosnia as my top det.
