Anybody been 'issued' and ISAF medal for Afgan?

I was out there between Nov 04 & Mar 05 in support of the Harrier det and ended up working with the Yanks - long story.

On my return I got the OSM but have since had mates who have been issued the ISAF medal both working at KAF and down on FOBs Bastion etc.

Anyone know the offical gen on this?

I'm out now so if I am entittled I'll have to get it through Innsworth.

Cheers.

I just got mine handed to me by the Admin bod in the DAG at kandybar. Seemed to be buckets of them. Nice laser printed certificate too!!

As far as I know mate, you have to get it in theatre. A few chaps that have returned recently have been mugged off reference this medal. I'll make damned sure I get mine when I'm over there.

Speak to the SPVA, they have a page reference medals on the internet I think.

Unfortunately, I think it all goes through JPAC now, so don't be suprised if it all gets fcuked up!!

I got mine as i was walking out the door by my admin staff at Cott, get in touch there if you was with the harrier det, they seemed to have plenty in stock although i think they were hording them for some reason because none of the other lads on the section had been given theirs.

Never got a certificate though, whats all that about?

So come on c0cknocker, what you going to do with it? Frame it and put it on your me wall or wear it to next years remembrance parade?

******

Fomz I don't really see your problem mate. It's an issue medal just the same as anything else.

What's your personal beef with it?

I've no beef with it at all Monty, but its a gizzit lets face it. You aren't allowed to wear it, as you get awarded the OSM(afghanistan).

Agreed it's a gizzit, but at least it's for operational service, unlike the Golden Jubilee chocolate medal.

I'll make damned sure I get mine! :PDT_Xtremez_17:

Saying that, I had a big box of the fcukers under my desk in KDH in 2006, gave them out to anyone that just hapened to be bimbling by....................

Its still a medal for your service just like all the others you get so why shouldn't the lad get it if everyone else is.

When I got mine the CO at KAF said that we may get the nod to wear it on our unifoms alongside the Kosovo ISAF medal which you ARE allowed to wear.

Look familiar ?

ISAF Medal

ISAF Medal

You can't fcuking wear it on your uniform anyway.

Oh really, then pray tell me why a snowdrop in Uxbridge is currently getting his ISAF medal mounted along with his OSM, cos I saw it last week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As FOMz has correctly stated you are NOT allowed to wear the medal in uniform. There is nothing at all to stop it being mounted with your other medals if you so wish, which is what said Snowdrop has done. Maybe he's out the military soon and wants them to look all petty in his little cabinet or something.

If said snowdrop wears it in uniform he stands to get charged as it will contravene orders.

There is a big push @ Cottesmore to acquire these medals for the members of 4 Sqn & NSW who have not yet been issued them, so if you write to P1 at RAF Cottesmore, stating your dates of deployment then they may well have indented for one for you.
