Has anyone else noticed the alarming amount of Suppliers that are IT illiterate/incapable/scared?

Bit worrying considering we are a Logs IS based job.

Do Phase 2 trainees get taught any IT skills?

They used to be taught key skills, which used to incorporate ICT and stuff. But that was taken out of the L(S)BT, last year. we do get a lot of Phase 2 students coming through with all kinds off learning difficulties. Which may sound bad but some of them are really good practically, and as long as you are aware of their needs and factor that in, then problems should be minimal. Don't forget it's our job to coach and mentor them untill they get to point they are able to do the same to others. But to answer your question NO, they don't. Norman - I've sent you a PM.

Don't get me wrong, they're capable enough when on MJDI it's just basic key IT skills such as sending an email with an attachment, creating a basic spreadsheet/word document etc that they struggle with.

I imagined that the 'PlayStation' generation we hear about would have all this sorted & they'd be coaching me through it...apparently not.

You ever seen anyone working a spreadsheet on a playstation or writing a letter on an X Box?

I bet a lot of them would be pretty good at controlling a far off drone though!

Suppose you're right. When MJDI goes onto PDAs they will be sorted I suppose. Techies can then text their demands straight to Supply then without having to leave their very important workplace & talk to a mere storeman.
