Jamie Carragher has announced his retirement at the end of the season:

A loyal servsnt to Liverpool FC for 16 years, I think he will go down as one of the Anfield greats. A real stalwart in the centre of defence, never one to shirk a challenge and a man who would bleed for his team. A future Liverpool manager in the making, he's also someone who Roy Hodgson should take on board with the England set-up as he has a wealth of experience at the highest level which could benefit England for years to come.

He gives his all for the club. I hope that in the future there is a position for him in LFC's management structure. He would be an excellent coach advising on the back 4's playing style. YNWA

Devils Advocate here:

Wasn't Roy Keane a future Man Utd mangager in the making??

Would be an excellent coach??

No evidence of either so far. Just because somebody is full of fire and brimstone and passion and cares about their club, it doesn't make them automatically fit for purpose as a Coach and/or Manager.

Absolute hero for LFC since he made his debut, has played all over the back 4 and midfield for us. Rumour control is that he is going to work at the academy with the 'future' LFC defence.

Good players never make good managers.

He should be fine then.::P:

Brian Clough, great player 2 league titles with unfashionable East Midlands clubs and 2 European cups
Dave Mackay great player league title with small East Midlands club
Alf Ramsey say no more
Bobby Robson countless titles
Kenny Dalglish league titles with 2 clubs
Bill Shankly
Matt Busby
Even rednose at Old Trafford was a decent player in his day

yes as usual you are dead right good players never make good managers :PDT_Xtremez_06:

You could argue that apart from Kenny Dalglish they were all decent players not great players.
Clough might have been but for injury.

I would suggest that there are more great players out there who have struggled at management than non players or decent players who have became great managers.
Would Fergie,Shankly,Stein and Busby made their own teams?
