This is probably going to sound like a "cake and eat it" situation but I have been offered an interview for a job and cannot get the time off for the interview.

I am going on a course with the Army for 6 weeks that is contractor led and has no scope for time off. I have completed 22 years, signed on to LOS30 but haven't put in my notice yet.

Where do I stand on being able to get the time off or am I onto a hiding to nothing as I am not "officially" leaving?

Few employers would give you time off to attend interviews, unless you are in some kind of redundancy leaving programme, so it's not just the RAF being a bit hard, if you snook off from my employer and didn't sign out as either holiday or early finish (toil) it would be considered to be Gross Misconduct.

Saying that most employers understand this so can be willing to accommodate your needs, I regularly conduct interviews in the evening so that people with jobs can be seen.

Good luck

Have told the prospective employer my situation/availability and they are seeing what they can do.

Can't/won't pull a sickie as I would be letting a good friend of mine down. Would have happily taken it as leave, it is to my benefit after all. Never mind, will see what happens. Que Serra etc...

Was it a good enough job spec to warrant pulling a sicky?

I agree that if employers are interested enough in you they will accomodate your military lifestyle to get you to interview...Although already interviewed and accepted a 'hiccup' occurred when I had to deploy rather than starting and my fuuire bosses went out of their way saying 'concentrate on what you have to do out there and don't worry about us'.

I've had a couple of job interviews on a Saturday morning in the past, so if you explain that during the week is a no go they might move the interview to help you.
