Hi there

Has anyone whose in the RAF had a conviction? I want to apply but am going through the motions at the moment and I read on the RAF website that they my still consider you and am just wandering what the chances of this would be.

Many thanks

It depends what career choice you are applying for (some are classed as "conviction free"), what your conviction was for and what sentence you were given. The best thing to do would be to go to your nearest AFCO and ask their advice.

Hi thanks. Is there a way I can find out which roles are classed as 'conviction free'. Im planning to go to AFCO but I know they'll just tell me to wait until I have the outcome but that won't be for months yet and I don't want to get my hopes up. Im interested in the personnel support.

Personnel Support is not one which is classed as "conviction free" but you will be unable to join until your conviction is considered spent under the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. The time it takes before your conviction will be considered spent depends on the sentence awarded.

Hi,

I joined up with a conviction no problem. It all depends on how long ago and what it is.

That should help, but if it's a violent crime you have no chance to be honest!

Pop into the AFCO and explain yourself.

I was lucky in a way as it was a small offence and I had already gone through a lot of the recruitment process so they let me off (drunken mistake)!

GOOD LUCK!
