Whats the gen here?

Beforehand you had to get a form from the med centre and take that with you when you went to your eye test.

However, I've just had one of the lads come in and claim his eye test and his £190 glasses back on JPA.

So my question is......

How much can you actually claim back on JPA? I phoned an admin clerk and she just wibbled and said "I'm not sure, have you checked the AP?"

Yer, thanks for all your help ::/: !!!

I have just had my eye test done and the admin clerks have fobbed me off to the med centre. Basically as far as im concerned and understand you still need to get the same med form take to optician where they fill it all in and then the med centre gave me instructions on how to claim the cost of the test back on JPA. I was not told i could claim for my own specs bought in store. I am still under the impression that as we still get issue specs you couldnt claim for privately bought specs, but i could be wrong.

Wobbly, I claimed my eye test back last month. As long he has the £19 test on a receipt somewhere, he can make an expenses claim on JPA. There he can claim under Medical & Dental, put in the free script box a claim for Eye test, where and when and keep the same UIN. And probably wont even get audited either.
Don't think he can claim for glasses as he is probably not under NHS for them (but dont quote me on that). Its his choice on type and lenses etc.
His Med Centre should know this as mine did when I asked.
Any more info, just ask, the missus is a Medic.
Hope that helps?

He might be in deep doo doo for claiming for his glasses. The only ones the RAF will give you are the two snazzy looking things with wire arms or turtle shell.

You used to be able to claim about £60 odd a few years ago (pre JPA) if you needed specs to do your job.. Probably changed now though.

No med centre form required for those north of the border as eye tests are free for all on the NHS. You still need to pay for your own specs though if you don't want to wear those free, jazzy defence specs.

Eye tests free for over 40s who say there is a family history of glaucoma South of the Border.

As far as I am aware there is a form to fill in for essential computer users who spend a % of their time stuck in front of the puter and this will get you the £60 towards glasses or if they are les than that then up to the full amount. Still no standardisation with regards claiming the money back for your eye test,

What expense type do you use, the justification is a free text but the expense type is a drop down menu. I normally use taxi fares when I can't find anything else but thought I'd ask you first.

I've just spoken to my Med Centre, apparently you can only claim the £60 if you use the glasses for VDU only, if you need them for anything else you can't claim

Thats not correct its is to do with amount of time spent working at a computer
If you already wear glasses you get the 60 quid towards it if you dont work with computers for a good part of the day you dont qualify for the 60 quid if you need glasses for working on a computer then odds are you will need them for other things.

Do I need a form first or can I just do a £60 i expense, I sit behind a computer all day sinking deeper into depression each time an e mail comes in.

If it makes you feel better, fill out the JPA...even Lie if you won't it won't matter....then next time an email comes in get a really sharp implement and stab yourself with it.....keep doing this every time an email comes in.

If you stopped after the first time, your not depressed just bored, however if you carried on........

Crack on.....................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

OK on the eye test the optician completes something along the lines of....

Mr/Mrs XXXXXX does/does not require lenses solely for VDU use. Or a phrase to that effect. If they state that you do not require lenses solely for VDU use... No Claim. Regardless of how long you spend at the computer.

I need glasses. I cannot see my computer screen which some days I spend 7 hours at, without them. However, because I also need specs for just normal reading I do not qualify for the £60.

Who the funk only requires spec for VDU use and nothing else?????

I was told that as I already wear glasses all of the time, I'm not entitled, and as a clk, I am sat at a VDU for most of the day.

Me, actually. Not that it should matter since that is not my understanding of the rules. It might be worth asking the med centre to quote you chapter and verse - tell them you want to submit a redress because you think the rules are discriminatory. That should stir things up a bit.
