So earlier today I was trying to find out allowances for Ops etc and I stumbled across these two.

Insurance allowance (IA) £52

Campaign Continuity Allowance £60 per day!!!!!

Can anybody explain a little bit about them etc before people rush to Handbrake House.

As a side note I am assuming that the Op allowance and the LSSA rate are both tax free, am I correct?

Many thanks.

Op allowance - Tax Free.
LSA - Taxable.

As for the other allowances, what does JSP 752 say?

As an aside to your aside they don't count towards your pension if you on final salary 05 either.....which is a shame.

Campaign Continuity Allowance was introduced in 2009 for specific posts that require individuals to serve on tours in an op theatre for longer than 9 months. There aren't many of these posts. It is taxable and isn't paid until the 229th day in Theatre. So that's an extra £8220 before tax (on top of LSA and Op Allowance)) for a 12-month tour in qualifying posts.

I recall it being publicised when it was introduced.

It's hardly hiding it away by putting it in the pay and allowances JSP on the intranet - if you google it you'll find quite a few links including a shed load of info on the RAF Families Federation website.

Wow that's £23608 for a year away (LSA at around £400 a month £4800 and op bonus of £10588) and then your wages! Mind you I think the wife and kids would rather I was home 12 months in one go in Afghan would be a killer.

MMM now I can see why a certain person went to Afgan for a year straight after a couple of years down the Falklands.

With 180days between levels a year tour (plus PDT/MST) will see an individual go up a couple of levels during the tour.

On a similar note, a guy I'm deploying with this time is on the penultimate level of LSA so on £27.04 a day rising to £28.24 while we're out there.
