Ullo :) long time no see.....

Does anyone have the NSN or NIIN for Kim Wipe (both the big and little rolls). We use cotton rags on the sqn, and they get on my nerves! trying to put a proposal through to change to kim wipe.

And does anyone know... is Wypal L20 the same as blue roll???

Ta muchly :)

Wypall is a Kimberley Clark product from their professional range which we now get at work in lew of kimwipe/blue roll it comes in both big and little rolls.

Back in work tomorrow so will try and get a sect ref for you then. TB

Kimwipe or any other type of paper roll is useless for aviation work. It isn't very absorbent to fuels and hydraulic fuild and doesn't clean grime and dirt particulary well. My last work place got rid of it because it's expensive and not very good. Lint free cloth is the cleaning material specified in most civvy AMMs.. I must admit though, getting recycled brazil world cup shirts as aerospace cleaning materials isn't my idea of a good supplier, but that depends of the MRO! I thought my employer had most things sorted, but cloths isn't one of them!

How can you diss Kwim Wipe, along with BodgeTape, double bond, Araldite, Speed tape and Honk bags. I fail to see how any self respecting Sqn can operate successfully without them.

A few questions for you:

How do you hold your bacon butty with minging hands?
How do you mop the blood of your forehead when youve whacked it on a engine?
How do you wipe down guts from a bird strike?
What do you use as a pillow when doing some bloody akward job?
What do you make a bandana out of when youre sweating buckets in the desert?
What do you use to hold flying controls in place?

yay there ARE people around! lol

I hate using cotton rags, they are cr@p! the L-20 specs absorption rate is way better.... I've never had a problem using kimwipe for hyd fluid, and like BCT its so versatile!

Rags were banned at a hovering aircraft base near to the A1 after a Navy bummer left half a rugby shirt in a control run. They banged on for ages to get rags as they said they were better, all it introduced was a flight safety risk. Kimwipe is useful just dont get the Medical grade stuff its too soft and no good for aircraft work.

Here you go.

D of Q is per pack. Little rolls come in packs of 24, big rolls in packs of 12.

NSN's Big rolls 8540 99 8829329, Little Rolls 8540 99 1846312

Get ILLBW to be your H&S advisor..LOL

I've seen one roll of bodge tape since I left the RAF on an MRO.. Bubble wrap makes a nicer pillow. Lashing tape?? I can see why the RNZAF doesn't use Kimwipe.. They don't want to spend all their defence budget on Shoutie decorating her house!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Kimwipe is also a FS risk, especially in fuel tanks.. Anything left in an aircraft imposes a risk of FOD. Thats got more to do with abuse of the system than the item. In the civvy world, if an area is to be closed the certifier has to do a clear to fit inspection first. He shouldn't find anything because the person doing the close up task should check first, but he is aware that isn't always the case . If its a fuel tank, an Independant inspection by another ceritifier (especially in base maint) is required universally in EASA and FAA companies..

We use rags instead of Kimwipe at our place (a certain Cornish Naval establishment), but to alleviate the flight safety/FOD risk, they are treated as tools and have to be tagged out of tool stores as such. A fairly good idea but i still miss Kimwipe :S
