Hey there!

Has anyone been fortunate enough to have been put through any language training by their TDF? Looking into enroling on an Arabic course and was just wondering if any one here has already done so, and if yes then how did you complete your course was it all self study or were you granted day release to a college or what not?

Any help much appreciated,

Xchen.

My experience is limited, but bear with me.

Go down to your TDF, and express an interest in sitting the MLAT, Modern Language Aptitude test.

You cannot study for the test as it is based on a ficticious language, but it will test your aptitude for studying foreign languages.

If you score high enough, the details will be annotated to JPA as a competence, and you will be able to apply to the Defence school of Languages to take part in the 18 month long language course for one of the dialects. This will of course mean you will be doing a tour overseas in a language role.

Theres a fair bit of paperwork and your desk would have to release you, sadly for me, there was no chance of my desk releasing me while I was in.
