Simply question hopefully, but as a non-adminer I can 't find the AP....

Can LAR and substitution pay be awarded against a post where somebody is long term sick, say for 3+ months? Or is it just LAR?

The post requires LAR as the tasks have to be supervised, but somebody else (not me) reckons that substitution pay can be appled for too....

Or can nothing be done just because it is somebody on the long term sick?

Hopefully a helpful admin type will come along and confirm but is maybe SPAR a more appropriate option (does this still exist?) Even better is if the paid bit goes from low to high band - I had this for 18 months in a previous job.

As long as you are qualified to hold the acting rank (different trades, different rules from what I remember) then rock-star wages should soon be yours my friend!

Local Acting Higher Rank is the appropriate measure here if it is justifiable and the individual fits the criteria. You should be able to prove that you need someone of the higher rank for supervisory or management purposes and they must have been recommended for promotion on their most recent SJAR, no disciplinary etc. AP3376 is the appropriate document I believe or even the 3392; can't remember off the top of my head right now. SUPA should also be allowable and JSP754 will point you in the right direction if you have immediate access to it. Otherwise I can confirm in the morning.

The candidate going up meets the normal criteria, I just was unsure because the are filling in for a sicky as opposed to OOA.So to clarify LAR is a goer, as is substitution pay?

Yes to both. Acting Higher rank can be granted by the CO for Management or Supervisory reasons provided the individual has a Yes for promotion 1 rank up and a PIA of over 'D'. AHR is unpaid however subs pay can be authorised if the individual is filling the post for over 21 consecutive days. Reference for the Rank is AP3376 Vol 1 Chap 5 and JSP 754 Chap 3 Section 8 for the SUPA.
