Due to circumstances beyond my control I can't take all my POL or my relocation leave... How long do I have to use them before they get binned?

And before a pedant says look on dii, I have no access at the minute. Thanks....

JPA is set up to deduct POL from any leave apps before any annual leave, so as soon as you submit a leave app, your POL balance will be taken off - suggest you whack in for 2 weeks over Xmas now to make sure its used.

Im surprised that you are not being able to take your POL after an OOA though - its supposed to be sacrosanct, and after all, your section has done without you for 4-6 months, so why they suddenly cant cope for another 3 weeks is a bit strange!

Short notice posting and incumbent course for new job. No complaints.

I don't necessarily want to use POL and relocation straight away, it might be more beneficial to reduce ILA first, as I have a fair whack of that too. Especially if the POL and relocation are valid beyond Mar 31 2015....

The way my former personnel got round this was to submit leave apps before they had earned their POL, so that their ILA was reduced to a figure below 15, but their POL would remain in situ until the next leave year, as POL doesnt count in the 15 days max carried forward.

If you have already returned then there's not a great deal you can do, other than go cap in hand to some scribbly on 1 April next year requesting that he/she allows you to carry excess leave forward.

A manual would still be automatically deducted from your balances as per the pecking order. Plus, as a SNCO who is a self-authoriser on JPA, there would be no need for you to submit a manual one unless it contained non-standard leave such as Travelling Time.

Yes. As I said above, the system is set up to deduct it in a specific order:

POL
AA
ALA

ILA is the whole balance of POL+AA+ALA - by ticking the box, you are merely saying "take it out of my normal balance".

The only way to get round it if you have already returned is for your POL to be removed by HR, then the leave pass actioned to JPA, then the POL to be re-instated. It would take a clerk around 30 mins to get all that done, plus time spent the next day checking its all worked correctly.

How do I know? I've done it a few times in the past for my Sqn guys (yes, many of whom were TG1 and didn't slag off TG17)

Good luck in finding someone who will go through all that for you when they have no service reason to do it!

Luckily I have a helpful clerk, so it may not be an issue.
