Afternoon Goaters.. Has anyone else taken advantage of the offer of being allowed to start a job 3 months before your 22 year point but only if you have a job offer? Good to hear from anyone who has, just to make sure it does not affect my pension etc.... Ta v much

I don't know of anyone who has but I plan to be working 3 months prior to my exit date due to the amount of resettlement, terminal and annual leave I have.

As long as you have a firm job offer PSF have stated that i can be released 3 months prior my date plus my Terminal leave, making that just under 4 months. Already done the resettlement leave part.

I am currently in negotiation with my Flight Commander after receiving a firm job offer. HR stated that my FC can stand me down at her discression. My last working day is 31 Jan and my terminal date is 13 May 11. I could be out of my current job by the end of this month if all goes well.

That's good news mate. Have you looked into if it will affect your pay out and pension? When would you start getting the pay out? does it stay the same as if you were staying in as normal till your exit date?

Unless you dont want a lump sum and a pension, make sure you do the 22 - I cant think of any job that is worth losing £30K + £10K pa for the rest of your life.

I was under the impression that you could only earn a salary during your terminal leave, but have also heard of people working a couple of months before that for "free" and then suddenly find a "bonus" in their 3rd month's salary!

Everything stays the same, as it is counted as standown it does not affect the terminal date so my pension is safe. Basically it is free time off as long as you have a job. I have to produce an official offer of employment and then the ball can well and truly get rolling. The caveate is that its classed as work experience and not paid employment. Basically that means a golden handshake of back pay from your new employer (taxed of course, so the tax man loves you) when you are eligable to recieve pay in your last month of terminal service. Winner Winner chicken dinner!!!

Can't remeber exact timescales/details but a mate of mine did it no problems.

I personally wouldn't trust it until the 22 is in the bag but that's only my opinion. If you can make it work, then good luck.

This topic has been covered on here before. If you are on a pensionable engagement you can apply to have your discharge date brought forward by up to 3 months. Your pension will reduce slightly - you will receive 261/264ths of your pension. You will have your terminal grant, commutation rights, full resettlement and terminal leave as if you had completed 22 years.

Guys,

I too am going through the resettlement process, and here are a few points of interest.

1. Make sure you get anything down in writing.

2. QR 607(2b) States that "With a view to Service Pension - Within 3 months of the end of the period for which re-engaged, in order to take up civil employment which cannot be held open." Documentary evidence is needed.

3. QR 3022 - "An airman serving on an engaement to complete at least 22 years reckonable service, on the termination of which he would have been eligible for a service pension, who is permitted to take his discharge under the provisions of para 607(2)(b) less than three months before completion of his engagement, will be eligible for a service pension calculated on the reckonable service rendered, notwithstanding that his reckonable service falls short of 22 years."

Basically, despite what you may have been told by your HR / PSF You CAN leave early without forfeiting your pension (although you will lose 3 months of the total amount)

Dont bother to ring the JPAC as all they said was to contact my HR.

I had a firm job offer, which required me to leave early, but my HR gave me 3 different exit dates and also told me that I could not leave early. I have since lost that job and I am looking for work again.

A big thank you to my HR for screwing up the perfect job for me and making me look like an idiot.
