Hello, I have now got 28 days left in the RAF, my tax credit renewal came in the post , my questions are do I need to tell the benefits agency that I will soon be redundent? and do I get to sign on until I can get a job?, cheers for any info.

You can ring the tax credits agency and explain your situation, they are actually very helpful. They will accept your estimation of you earnings for the next twelve months and award you tax credits accordingly. If you are anything like me, the pay and pension you receive once finished in the mob will be considerably lower than you are used to, qualifying you for an increase in tax credits. If I hadn't informed them I would have received nothing for this year due to the government changing the limits, however my new forecast ensures that I get some. Hope this helps.

As for signing on, you are advised to sign on even if you are not entitled to any benefits due to the size of your pension. This will ensure that your stamp will continue to be paid if you have paid less than 30 years NI contributions. If you need further advice you should speak to either the SPVA rep for your area or better still get in touch with the RAFA or RBL.
