I’m in my last 18 months and I’m considering doing the above courses. It’s hands on using the Allen Bradley SLC500 PLC and combined they cover everything from basic I/O, Ladder Logic and SCADA.

Has anybody done these courses and if so how did you rate them?

I also understand that Allen Bradley is only one manufacturer of PLCs but is the course a usefull step to working in automation?

Your thoughts and opinions will as ever be appreciated.

I have just done a similar PLC course at Inverness college using Zelio soft software for programming mitsubishi plc course was very good got to do ladder logic and set up you own programs then connect up plc to machines and test if they work.
I had to make a program for a washing machine and then show it working which was tricky but good my knowledge of plc nows is hopefully good enough for me to get a job working on them when im out next year.

I’m planning to use 2x SLC to pay for these courses as they span financial years. I was looking at using my ELC to pay for another automation course but the only one I can find that’s on the approved list is with Rockwell Automation in Milton Keynes that again is Allen Bradley.

There is a Siemens course at Grantham however it’s nearly £700 for one course that isn’t covered by ELC grants. From what I understand if you can do one type of PLC it’s easily enough to learn another however Siemens are a special case with typical German high quality but completely unique approach to its architecture.

How did you get on with the PLC training?

How did you get on with the PLC training?

Hey Carlos, hope all is well?

How did the PLC/SCADA training go? I am considering going down the PLC/SCADA route; I'm also considering Fibre Optics or Project Management too (it's an information gathering exercise to say the least).

What is the work like and is there plenty of call for it? What do you recommend as a must for a career in PLC Programming and SCADA?

I'm a Database and Applications Developer, so I can take on board programming syntax fairly readily; would this be a bonus?

Cheers for now.
