This advice is based on the assumption that you will be posted more than 50 miles away from where your house will be. Also that you are not posted to a PAYD unit.

From 1 Apr 08 there is no married unaccompanied food charge, everybody pays the same which will be £3.69 per day. However, as a beanstealer you will not pay an accommodation charge nor CILOCT (contribution in lieu of council tax).

You will be entitled to Get You Home (Mileage) which is a daily rate the amount of which is dependant on the distance from your unit to your home. When you claim it make sure your HR clerk rounds the mileage up to the nearest 10; it seems that a lot of clerks have been inputting the actual mileage which the system then rounds down.

From 1 Apr you will also be able to claim back food charges if you are away from the unit in excess of 24 hours (it used to be 48), so normal weekends qualify. Until I see it happen I'm not sure how it is supposed to work but I suspect you will just put in an absence request for the Sat/Sun which will not come from your leave allowance but will tell JPA that you are off unit and entitled to a refund.

i dont suppose you know about council tax reductions for my own house aswell do you and wether or not we get one as i would be in the block most of the time??

That would be entirely up to your local council and how they interpret the rules on the single occupier discount. I suspect you'll get a "nice try sunshine" but if you don't ask . . .

As you will not be paying accom or Council Tax at your unit, you will be liable for CT at your permanent residence (your house).

And dont forget to claim DA to your house, not the BB - slight difference of almost a grand I believe!

I was told by my local council (Stoke on Trent) that I had two hopes of getting a rebate, and yep one of those used to play golf quite well.

DA - Disturbance Allowance

BB - Barrack Block.

DA for yourself and family. Usually about a GRAND.

BB ususally £75 unless it has changed.
