If an I was considering leaving the wonderful world of the RAF to persue a Logistics career, not yet, but to gain the qualifications while still serving, what type/level of qualification/s would i be after to have a successful career, in a warehouse manager, logistics manager maybe percurment type roll, maybe eveing to end up coming back to a station as one of these highly paid Eurocopter/IMOS/BAE type bods?

Cheers:PDT_Xtremez_14:

Mate I got the details for level a 5 qualification in C.I.L.T (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport) in my inbox just this afternoon - give me a shout on facebook with your DII email and i'll send you the details if you want.

Whether or not you need a level 5 (not for off degree, 6 is broadly equivalent to a BA or BSc) to work for BAE etc is debateable but can't do you any harm. My mate who gave me the details reckons it's about 2-3 years study and costs around £2300, of which £2000 is covered by ELC.

Might by worth trying to join the CIPS as well. If Logistics is like the Engineering world, membership of a Professional body can look good on your CV.

Thanks for those replies, the CIPS route i have heard some not so good things about, really ro do with the credibility of the courses/qualifications, not done too much investigation into it though.

The CILT route i have had a good look into, the only thing stopping me starting is when promoted we pretty much qualify for the level 3. The level i want ideally to start and pay for is the level 5 CILT.

I have also seen a DIN today, cannot remember which one, It is aimed at SNCO and above level, its a Bsc(hons) in Logistics, done over two years and encompasses the level 6 CILT course, done through the Swansea Metropolitan University.

I will give you a bell with my details, seriously looking ahead at the moment.

Cheets again guys.

I only mentioned CIPS because many of the procurement jobs I've seen advertised in the rail industry mentioned CIPS qualifications.

Good luck whatever you choose.

Go for it!

Go for it!

For those that know me they will confirm that this is one of my pet subjects and you are looking at just the right time, it seems the Trade is really getting its act together with training.

I finished my BSc (Hons) through Anglia Ruskin University, which offered a Distance Learning package, no Credit for RAF courses but I learnt a hell of a lot about 'real world' logistics - where money counts, and e-business is a real factor!

If you are just looking around at training options at the moment have a look at the Defence Academy, it offers a number of courses FOR FREE and really helps get the brain working and puts you back into the academic thinking and may offer a few different options. CIPS is a hell of a course to undertake and to be fair most RAF Suppliers don't do procurement, I do and Commercial law is still a foreign language sometimes - have a good long at what they expect, its a BIG chunk of your life you will have to dedicate to it, before committing any money.

A number of training providers exist which offer CILT courses away from the RAF and they also offer a superb way to network with civilian colleagues, a great way to seek new opportunities.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

Correct Monty, all the Procurement team at Siemens TS are CIPS qualified as a matter of course. That's the one you need !!
