Hello E-Goat community,

I've recently finished college and shall be studying a degree in computer games art at the university of Teeside. However it wasn't until two week's ago after a visit to Farnborough air show that a child hood dream of mine was re-ignited. My passion for flight and my burning desire to become an airmen.
Therefore I'm in a bit of a catch 22, I'm suppose to be enrolling as a freshman on the Games Art Degree September 27 but having serious consideration's as to the reason's for doing it and if i will do acceptioanly well in it, I'm starting to lose interest in my chosen degree having studied it at national Dip level for two years in college. The catch is that my degree is five years, having completing it would make me the age of 24, just shy of one year being to old for an airman. Once I graduate I will have the choice of joining the RAF or finding a job as a games artist.the degree is usefull to games related job's however outside that industry it's useless, making for the competitive nature to get a job as an artist veary difficuilt

Now my biggest issue here is that I know my Maths level probably isn't even good enough to do well in the aptitude test to qualify for an airmen, so my Plan B was to forget the degree and head back to college to study Maths for four years then apply for recruitment, first choice being airmen. knowing this will put me in good footing in ultimately becoming a pilot

I just want to know really whether i should still go to uni and take math evening courses along side my degree or have a complete career change with the RAF being my sole goal doing four years of Maths study. I am more than happy to do either but I need a second oppionion on the matter.

it's a pleasure to be apart of this forum, I hope to gain some very valuable information and have a few laugh's. This is my first post and I'd like to say thanks to those who read and respond to it

P.s I have 20/20 vision at the moment and can run 1,5M in 9:40 i can do 100 in under 2.5 minutes and 40 sit up's under 2mins

Do you want to be a pilot? I assume so as you refer to the upper age limit of 25. A pilot is a commissioned officer why specialises in the flying side of life. Or you could go Non-Commissioned Aircrew, which would be flying but not in the driving seat so to speak. An airman is a non-commissioned member of the RAF, who then specialises in a certain trade.

For maths all you require is a C at GCSE, your other mathematical skills will be tested through aptitude testing.

If you've 5 GCSEs A-C including English Language and Maths and 2 A-levels A-E or equivalent, contact your nearest AFCO or look here or both.

4 years of solely studying maths would be my personal hell! Also you would be limiting your application opportunities as it can take more than one attempt at interview or the selection centre (OASC) to be selected, if at all. As a application can take upton 12 months sometimes, you need to be careful and not limit your options.

Good luck with the future and Welcome to the Goat!

Hello "Scribbly". Thank's a dozen for the reply.

Hell yes, I want to be a pilot, if it comes and i don't get the role I would still like to be part of an aircrew, as it's a fairly academic role my current education may fall short as it currently stand's I have only five GCSE's Maths and english being one of the few, i've also got a national diploma in games and media level's 2 and 3. And plan on studying a Degree i computer games development.
When I menstioned studying maths for four year's that was to compensate for the lack of math study I had,had previously to score high enough during my aptitude test to become apliccable for a Pilotry role. That being said I dont nessecerily want to pilot fast jet's as i dont think i could hack 9g without blacking out.
P.S
One interesting discovery I not to long found was that their is air trainning corps for those studying degree's, would this in anyway benifit me in to getting my ideal RAF career's role?.

Thank's Again and I hope to get some more feedback c'mon Egoat.
