Going to be working in stores of our local sea cadet unit soon. They have no stores system in place at all (they dont seem to have a common sys throughout the cadets either), so I am wondering if it would be possible to use the manual accounting package that scaf currently use. I am visiting the unit tomorrow first thing, for the first time, so need to know if it could be a possibility before i mention it . I imagine there could be licence/cost issues, support etc, cant see there being a security issue as its stand alone sys.
The sys would be ideal as all their clothing and boating/exped stuff needs to be accounted for, and most of their boating stuff is lifed too. If not will have to use t-cards and the like!.

I am a stacker and will be asking the bosses and IT guys at my camp when back from stand-down next tuesday.

The LSSG package is controlled by Small Systems at Wyton, sorry do not have the number but your SCAF should have.
One thing mate it sounds like a mallet to brake a peanut shell to me. Why not just use Excel or Access

Why don't you go all old skool on them and use manual accounting. F1640M, F5991s & F668s for the loan stuff...oooh it takes me back ah tell thee!:PDT_Xtremez_14:

I'm sure there are a few F1640M rolodex drums kicking around at Stafford.

Remember to use the three different colour pens (red, blue and black) for the correct transactions too.

These young 'uns are far to spoilt. USASII? In my day we had T-cards, a bunch of F1640M's and a DLT in the corner with a screen that messed your eyes up when it occasionally worked and we were grateful.

The wife has just informed me (cadet instructor) that all the cadets forces are getting a new computer system soonish, which will have a stores sect on it and their pay too, a bit like jpa, heaven help them!! Mind you having just visited their unit to see the store (size of a broom cupboard) and all the paperwork lying loose in the back of one of the instuctors cars! I may regret volunteering!

The SCAFMIS package is going to be combined onto USAS soon and will (hopefully) fade away. Not that you lot care.

THS - I hope you've got a Q143 for COMPFAIL over there - hate to see you old timers not keeping the proper practices alive if you're banging on about DLTs.

If you were really old, you'd be talking about 1010 and 472 anyway!
